I posted a few weeks ago that e went for a pt eval because I noticed a flat spot starting. The rn didn't seem to even notice but sent us for the therapy eval. They told me he has mild tortcollis. A few days later we went back to get the home exercises and his range of motion went from 10 degrees to 80 after just working with him and making him turn left more. Well we've been doing the exercises diligently and tonight she said he was about the same as 2 weeks ago. Ok. Well now she's saying he should be pulling his knees up more and doing all kinds of stuff that honestly I don't think he'd be doing if he was full term and 3 months old. I mean all kids are different and some kids may be rolling back to front easily by three months. Others later. He rolled to his side the other day but hasnt since but he was very deliberate when he did it. It wasn't an oops I just flipped there thing. So I think he knows how/ can but just doesn't want to all the time. I feel like therapy is making me push him too hard or feel paranoid that he's behind when he is perfectly normal. Like if we hadn't gone to pt I wouldn't be concerned at all about these things. I am happy for their advice and his flat spot does look better. I'm glad we found out about the tortcollis early too. So it isn't a bad thing but I'm scared it's going to make me crazy. Anyone else?
Our little hippo was as impatient as mom!
Hoping for a full 40 weeks!!
Re: Pt causing me to worry more
Honestly, I would listen to what the PT people say and try to incorporate it into your day. You wouldn't be pushing him too hard--you're just doing certain exercises or things that will ultimately help in the long run. You know your child and will do whatever exercises work for you. For example, we need to work on Adalyn to get up on her knees, but she isn't a big fan. We try a little every day, but if she is just not having it, we just work on something else and try it again later. Or, you could tell the PT that the particular thing she wanted you work on isn't working and ask if there is something else to try.
One thing that helped me with it all was saying to myself that the PT wasn't there to make me feel bad. They were there to help with the baby progressing in their development and to help identify issues ahead of time when they are easier to correct or fix.
I decided to not focus on her age for when she is supposed to do things, and instead focus on the order of when things should be happening. I use the EI person as one of my daughter's many resources. If you don't feel comfortable with that PT and they aren't coming off with empathy and concern, I think that it is reasonable to ask to see a different PT. Ultimately, they are part of the team, that includes you, that is there to help make a positive outcome in your child. Think of it as your baby's "people" who all have a vested interest in helping them succeed. My advice is that if you don't get that feeling from them, find someone who does!

I just read your post after posting my own bad pt experience today. I totally get how your feeling. I really thought my DS was doing great and she said she thinks he is 5-6 weeks behind. Now I am totally obsessing about it!
I think your lo is about the same age as mine- is he reaching for things yet? Or is he able to sit on his own at all?
He reaches for and grabs things with both hands and can sit up assisted. he isn't really sitting alone yet, but will ball his hands up and hold himself up a bit. he doesn't seem to like it though and the PT said it is difficult for him (which is why is he making his hands into fists).
Developmentally he is on track, which is I guess why I am confused. She hasn't said he is behind on anything at all to date. I just don't want to push him to be ahead of the milestones, I feel like he should develop on his own schedule as long as it is age appropriate.
ETA- the only thing they do at PT is observe him really. they gave us two exercises to do to stretch his neck due to the torticollis but other than that she gave us some ideas on how to help him learn to roll from back to belly and that was it. So it isn't that he hates it, he just does tummy time and plays with toys. I am just wondering if it is worth all the money we are spending!
It sounds like your lo is doing great!! It is a good comparison for me b/c our lo's are close in age. My DS can sit assisted the same way- rest on his hands in front of him. He doesn't seem to mind doing it but gets tired after a while. My DS isn't reaching for things yet- at least not consistently. He does reach for our dogs but not really for any toys. This seems to be the thing that he is most behind on. He is close to rolling and can do it with a jump start, but isn't totally there yet. Hopefully the pt will be right and he'll do it in the next 2 weeks.
My PT sessions sound similar to yours. She does a few neck stretches and then helps him roll. They were more intense with the neck stretches at first but are now more laid back. I feel that even if my lo is getting something small from it, then it's worth doing. Is your insurance company covering it?
when you say rolling do you mean front to back or back to front?
insurance is covering but we have a $25 copay and I'm limited to 20 visits until august so if I use them all now and there is an issue later I have no coverage. i just read your other post but it sounds like your son is doing awesome!
