Should've known better

I was feeling SO MUCH BETTER today (not really queasy, actually hungry, etc.), and I actually wanted meat! I haven't wanted it in at least 2 weeks. So I ate some for lunch, and UGH. Now I feel like I've got a brick sitting in my stomach, 4 hours later.

I've done a decent job with protein by eating plenty of beans, eggs, dairy, tofu - but any vegetarians out there have ideas of what you've eaten to get enough protein and iron during pregnancy? TIA!

  • I'm not an herbivore, but green leafies like spinich and broccoli are good sources of folate and iron, correct?

I think so too, I'm just not sure how much I'd need to eat to make up for meat-eating? I know kale is apparently a superfood, but it's kind of hard to eat it THAT often.

  • Quinoa has tons of protein and is super healthy. It makes me feel better about all the cheese I normally add to it.

Much love to all of my magical ladies.

  • I've been a vegetarian for most of my life and am trying hard to add protein to my diet for the baby. Have you tried protein shakes? You can mix the powder with some almond milk to get some extra calcium in as well. If you don't like the last of the straight shake, try adding it to a smoothie.

Oh, that's a really good idea - thank you!

Are most protein powders safe for pregnant women? I've read that they are, just wanted to be 100% sure! We use a whey protein powder at our house in our shakes (so yummy: kale or spinach, frozen fruits, almond milk and I'll add some dry oatmeal in there too for some texture!)
