Baby Showers

Registry Question

We live in a larger town with a Babies-R-Us and a Buy Buy Baby.  In my home town where my family lives. The closest of those stores is about an hour away.  Should I not register there since they're not in a convenient location for my family?

Re: Registry Question

  • From someone who has had gotten a ton of baby shower invites in the past few years, I always dislike it when people register at stores that are not nearby when I live near the person the shower is for. I end up spending less money on the actual gifts to also afford the shipping than I would if I could just buy the gifts at the store. Paying for shipping when you are going to the actual shower is a pain. I am due with my first baby in January. There is a Babies 'R' Us five minutes from our house but nowhere near the two towns we had/are having our showers in. We choose to register at Target since they are everywhere and then did Babies 'R' Us for the few things we couldn't get at Target. So far we have had one of our showers: 52 items purchased off the Target registry and 0 off of the Babies 'R' Us one. From my experience, you will get more gifts off of your registry if it's from a place close by where your showers will be held.

  • Do they have a Bed, Bath and Beyond nearby?  Our registry consultant let us know that if someone wants to get you something from your Buy Buy Baby registry but they don't a physical store nearby, they can go to a Bed Bath and beyond store, order the product and since it is "out of stock", it gets shipped for free.
  • Is there are Target or Walmart near where your guests live?  They don't have as big of a selection, but I'd try to find as much as you can there, and then fill in the gaps at either BRU or BBB.  If you have a very internet-saavy group, you could also think about Amazon, but most people like to just stop into a brick and morter store on their way to the shower or the day before.

  • There is a Target and a Bed, Bath, and Beyond in the same shopping center about 25 minutes from them.  That's a good tip for BB&B. I wasn't aware of it.

    This!

  • That deal about BB&B and BBB is pretty cool! I had no idea! We have zero BBB's around here but there's like 4 BB&Bs!

We originally started our entire registry at BRU, we also started one at Target. By the time it came down to putting registry info in invites I had transferred pretty much everything onto the Target registry, all of their products are very similar if not identical.Target was more convenient for our guests, they're generally less expensive, the employees are nicer and the return policies are cake compared to BRU. BRU practically needs a DNA sample from the gift giver for you to return anything.

  • I registered at both BRU and Target. There is a BRU in the town I live, and most places have a Target. Oddly, things have been purchased off my BRU registry, but nothing from Target so far.

Actually, the person helping me at BRU made their return policy sound pretty great. As long as it's something they sell at BRU, even if it's not on your registry and you don't have a receipt, you can return it there.

  • This was a problem for me as well, so I went with an Amazon registry.  It worked great, especially for family/friends who live very far away. If I were you I would do an Amazon registry and a Target one as well.

  • If you're a registry stalker like I am, I'd do both.  I had two showers where I live and one where my parents live.  We have BBB, Target, BRU, pretty much everything by us, but really only a Target where my parents are.  So, I basically registered for the same things at both stores and as things went off of one registry, I would delete them off the other one.  In the end, the only doubles I received were swaddling blankets/sleep sacks in which more than one was definitely welcome.  If you're not going to have time to do that though, then I would stick with just one store that's available in both cities.

  • I would register online or what is the closest store nearby.   Gasoline prices are too high for anyone that has to travel far from their homes to go shopping.
