Pregnant after a Loss

will being on progesterone turn a m/c into a mmc?

So I know this isn't the most pleasant topic, but I have a question that's been on my mind....

I know that if a pregnancy isn't viable or there's other problems, being on progesterone isn't going to stop the miscarriage from happening.  But my question is, is being on progesterone going to keep you from bleeding and miscarrying naturally even though the pregnancy has miscarried -- thereby creating a missed miscarriage?  Because I have PgAL brain so badly, I keep checking constantly for spotting and then I realized that even if I miscarry, I may not start spotting because of the Prometrium.  I just wondered if this was actually true.  And if that's the case, is the only way to know you miscarried through blood work or seeing it on an u/s?

I was on progesterone with my first pregnancy and had a natural (complete) miscarriage.  I can't speak for anyone else, nor do I know if that's the "norm," but that's what happened for me.

What I had my mmc in March, I was on progesterone suppositories. I didn't start bleeding until about 36 hours after stopping the progesterone, after the loss was found on u/s. I don't know if this would stand up in all cases, though, but that is my story.

Answer from my RE when I asked:

Theoretically, it's possible. In practice? Not really. The amount of progesterone you get from supplements is high enough to sustain a viable pregnancy, but not enough to keep you trucking right along, unless your body was going to do that trucking anyhow.

    This.

I've always wondered that as well.  I didn't start to miscarry last time until after I had stopped my prog supp.  It took about 12 hours for the m/c to start AFTER I stopped the suppositories.  My pgal brain wonders the same thing when I 'clean' out the crinone every day... hmmmm.

With my first m/c I started bleeding despite being on prometrium with the second one I was on a higher dose of progesterone so I didn't bleed but I had other symptoms of m/c like sever back pain. The confirmed it with u/s.
