First Appointment - Dumb Question

My first prenatal appointment is on December 11, and I have kind of a dumb question.  Do most of you take your significant other to your first appointment?  I don't know whether to ask DH to request off work or not.  If something bad happened, though, then I would definitely want him there for support!  I guess I was just wondering what's "normal" (if there is such a thing!)

Definitely bring your SO!  They will usually do an U/S to confirm a viable pregnancy and you get to see that little peanut and the flicker of a heartbeat.  Definitely a great moment to share together.

FTM here, but DH wants to be at all my appointments. My first appointment is only a medical history and a blood draw but DH said he wants to come anyway. On the phone they said he is definitely welcome but it didn't sound like it was necessarily the norm for OHs to be there until the "bigger" appointments (to hear the heartbeat, ultrasounds, etc.)

BUT my DH has a really flexible work schedule and didn't have to actually have to take time off. So take what I said with a grain of salt.

It's pretty much required at the midwifery practice I go to.

DH went with me and I'm glad because I didn't know they would do an U/S so early and we were able to see the baby's HB. So, while it's up to you, if you think you're going to have an U/S done it's def worth it. If not, then I would go alone b/c the only other things they do are questions and bloodwork. You should call you're OB to ask what they normally do on initial prenatal appointments. Hope that helped!

Thanks!  I just sent him a text to tell him to request off!  I'm so excited...the next 4 weeks are going to crawl by! (and the next 8 months, for that matter!)

I'm glad you asked this - I was wondering the same thing! My first appointment is December 4th but I have no idea what it will actually involve. I'm going to call my OB office and ask - if they are planning an US I definitely want DH there but if it's just labs and paperwork it's not worth using his PTO.

When I called to make my appointment I asked if the husbands usually go for the first one. I was told to definitely bring my H because they will be doing an ultrasound.

My Dh did with my first child.  Can't remember with the second, and won't with the 3rd.  But I think its great when DH's are there...it's their baby too!!

My first appt is on 12/11 as well. My husband will be going with me just so that we can share that time of seeing our little one for the first time as it is our first child.
