I'm curious as to the percentage of girls that tried to have this done and whether it worked for you or not.  We attempted to turn her at 40 weeks but her head was stuck under my rib cage.  My OB said this procedure only works 30-50% of the time.  Just curious as to everyone's experiences.

We tried, it was painful and unsuccessful.  I would not do it again.

My doctor would not do one and recommended against anything to try and turn her.  Sometimes things are the way they are for a reason and thankfully we didn't do anything - the cord was around her neck 3 times!  Good luck.

yes, painful and Im still sore and it was a week ago today plus it didnt work

I didn't think it was that bad. We had ours at 37 and 4 days. I didn't have enough fluid for it to work, but I'm tempted to give it another go if my fluid levels are up this week.

I wanted to try it, and my OB thought I was a good candidate.  She does them at 39 weeks.  Unfortunately, I got the epidural (it increases the success rate for the version), and my blood pressure plummeted.  Had a c/s without even attempting the version because DD's heart rate dropped and wouldn't come back up.

ETA: I though 30-50% sounded pretty good, because that's a 30-50% chance of vaginal delivery, instead of a 100% guaranteed c/s if baby doesn't turn on his/her own.

I was 37 weeks and a few days when I tried it. I wasn't a good candidate but only found that out when I was on the table so I went through with it anyway. It was supremely uncomfortable, but not necessarily painful (no epi or pain meds of any kind in my case). It just felt wrong in my heart and I regret doing it. That sounds cheesy, but it's how I felt.

Even though I'm extremely disappointed over having a c-section, I felt a very strong sense of calm as soon as I found out LO was breech that it was meant to be. The ECV made me feel like I was ignoring my instincts and messed with that sense of calm. Plus, almost all the risks of an ECV (even if they are small) are on the baby. A c-section doesn't usually hurt the baby, the risks are mostly on the mom. I'm not sure how that works out in absolute numbers, but proportionally I felt like I made a selfish decision going through with it.

Even though I'm desperate to have a natural birth the second time around, I wouldn't do another ECV.

My doctor talked me into having one, it was extremely painful and ended up making me go into labor at 36 1/2 weeks.  I had an emergency c section at 130am. I wish i wouldnt of tried it.  Thankfully my son was a healthy baby.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. I am almost 38 weeks and baby is still breech. I wanted to try an ECV to avoid a c-section but OB says I am not a good candidate because my fluid is too low. I feel better about it reading your posts. How did your c-sections go? I'm anxious about mine scheduled for Dec. 4th at 39 weeks.
