The accuser recanted. After an investigation that found his claims were "unsubstantiated", he announced that the relationship was adult and consensual.

I try to be annoyed at Elmo. But then DS spins around in joy at the sight of Elmo, and I just can't hate him.

Plus, Elmo helps me cook. When DH is working late for the fifth day in a row and I really just need ten minutes to cook with a two year old's help... Elmo is my savior.

The man who plays Elmo's voice, Kevin Clash, went on a leave of absence after a 23 year old man came forward and said that he and Clash had a sexual relationship starting when he was 16. Clash admitted to the relationship but said it started when the accuser was 18.

That's a relief. 

Even though the allegations were false, I think his reputation has taken a hit.

ETA- he went to PBS/Sesame Street first asking for money in order to not go public with the accusations.  PBS/SS investigated and found the evidence lacking and said no to the extortion. 

why do people have to be so ugly?

Elmo is ok, but I actually really like Kevin Clash as a person so I am so happy he's in the clear.  He does some wonderful things for young children who are very ill and I'd hate for this to cloud his good work.
