The dreaded molars!

FTM here. DD's molars are coming through with a vengance, plus the tooth next to the bottom ones is coming out. All at the same time! That's 5 teeth!! :' She's really in pain, all whiney and extremely irritable more than usual, her gum are swollen and wakes up in the middle of the night screaming and crying uncontrolably. I bought some baby oralgel the natural one. But I don't think it's helping much.
Any recommendations of what to do or give her to help her though this?

Re: The dreaded molars!

  • Yea! Mine cut all 4 molars at the same time, and I swear it seemed like it took 3 effing months for them to come through the gums! It was horrible!

I tried that natural orajel as well, and I agree I don't think it did anything at all for her. I really didn't try anything besides that orajel, just suffered through it. Hopefully your LO will be feeling better soon :(

  • Our pedi actually suggested staying away from the orajel because it's so easy to over dose them on it.

We just did motrin. and Nick cut all 4 at once too. 2s are even worse! At least for us they were

  • LO got 4 in the front at 10.5mo. then got her molars immediately afterwards.  She was teething straight until 14mo.  We used her amber teething necklace mostly.

  • Motrin. My pedi said it works best if there's constantly some in the system for a day or two so I followed the almost maximum dosage for a couple days. It really seemed to help. (And she doesn't get hardly any at all otherwise, so I wasn't worried).

Also, ice cubes. She loved to chew ice cubes. I worried about the choking a bit but it made her so happy I just let her go.

  • We are also fans of our amber teething necklace, although even that couldn't get us sleep last night so we did add some Motrin and teething tablets to the mix.  DD never had a problem teething, but DS is just miserable with every single tooth.  Right now two molars have poked through, but the next two and canines are all trying to come in at the same time.

  • Another vote for motrin here. It was the only thing that gave DD any real relief.
  • Motrin. It's the only thing helping us.

  • I rub children's Tylenol on Brooks gums especially at night.. It really does help him with the pain especially at night we are finally sleeping again.
