Anti Bullying Assembly Help

My GSA is working on an anti bullying and suicide prevention assembly for our high school. We're trying to end the assembly on a positive note leaving students with the "it will get better" message. As the students leave the assembly I'd like to play a song with a positive, uplifting message. Something the students can relate to. I've got a few options to show the students in my GSA but sometimes I'm out of touch with what's "cool" so the more options the better.

So far I've got:

Hollerado Good Day at the Races

Alabama Shakes Hold On

Florence and the Machine Shake it Out or Dog Days

AWOLNATION Kill Your Heros

Imagine Dragons It's Time

Any suggestions?

Wow! That's quite the list! Thanks! I'll have to check them out. We're using the Rise Against video in the middle of the presentation. It's an awesome video!

  • This reminds me of the show, Awkward.

Sorry, I don't have any ideas but it seems mbenit has got the goods!

I forgot about Jimmy Eat World! That's exactly the kind of message we want, thanks!

We did something like this at DD's school however our approach was more like we're not going to accept it anymore. More about peers stepping in. If the bully doesn't feel support or the audience is on their side, etc. Don't be quiet.

We're focusing on cyber bullying and LGBT issues. We're starting with the consequences of bullying and then the Rise Against video, then a PowerPoint about The Trevor Project and how victims can get help and blocking cyber bullies and ending it off with positive affirmations and the "it gets better" message. The song will be played as the students leave the assembly. I think we've got something the students might actually pay attention to, which is saying a lot for high school students! Fingers crossed it goes as well in reality as it does in my head.

It sounds great. I think you will be surprise but it will get and hold their attention because you are talking their language when it comes to FB, texting, twitter, etc. They engage in all of it so they get all leaned it.

I am sure it will be great. Also - it is something everyone can relate to. Everyone has been teased or worse at least one time. So you know it didn't feel good.

Thanks. My GSA kids have been dying to do an assembly for a long time and I finally got up the guts to tackle it.  It's been a lot of work because I'm the only staff sponsor and I have 15-20 very enthusiastic and distractible kids, so it can be tough to get them wrangled long enough to put anything together.  But I think it will be fantastic! I hope.

  • Demi Lovato is an anti-bullying spokesperson. Maybe she has a song about it? I've never listened to her stuff.

Taylor's song "Mean" ends with her insulting those that insulted her. So bad choice unless that's the message you want to send. You can't say you don't like my music, but I can call you pathetic for having that opinion.

Ahhh. Well I wouldn't have know that because I've never heard an entire Taylor Swift song. It seems like she just has one long song that just goes on and on and on.
