Blended Families

Ugh

Where to start?  My 10 yr old DS is bipolar and possibly Aspergers.  I am separated, divorce proceedings are underway, trying to iron out custody agreement. We will have joint, placement with me and I will have final say in any medical/psych decisions. BD is now requesting to attend therapy with DS with a separate therapist out side of the services he already receives.  DS sees therapist and psychiatrist at school, another therapist comes to our home as well as a skill builder who takes him into the community.  DS is not the ideal candidate for therapy to begin with, as he just sits with his arms folded and growls when too many questions are asked.  BD has access to medial records and is invited to attend meetings held at school.  He refuses to be in the same room as me, so he chooses not to come.  I feel that it will not be beneficial for DS to see ANOTHER therapist.  Am I fighting a losing battle?

  • I think you need to turn to his therapists and ask what they recommend. You may need a revised agreement. I would see what the procedures are to see if you can have a mediator help facilitate some sort of reasonable agreement.

I agree with you. Your son does not need another therapist.  I'd see if his current therapists can help argue a case against this.

    I completely agree with this.
