Dads & Dads-to-be

Leaving on a Monday Morning...

This morning it was brutal.  I walked into my son's dark room to give him a peck on the check before I leave for the office. He was awake, so I turned on the light and there he was in his crib, smiling up at me. He was smiling like he thought it was still the weekend and that he was going to be able to hang out with daddy for another day.

But it wasn't...it was Monday morning, and I was leaving him for the day.

I HATE THIS FEELING!!!!

The weekends go by so fast it seems.  Friday night comes around, Saturday flies by, and by Sunday afternoon I am already thinking about work.  It really, really sucks!!  Here I am, at work, and all I am thinking about is his cute little smile, and how much i miss it during the day.

Just wait until you hear the screams and see the tears as you leave. That is brutal. At least they get over it pretty fast.

    Next Monday two things happen:

    1) My wife goes back to work

    2) Jacob's first day at daycare, and first day away from Mommy or Daddy.

No one will win on that day....

  • At least you are allowed to look in on your son, my wife has banned me since I leave so much earlier then either have to get up and my son usually wakes up which makes mommy cranky when I get home.

  • I am with you here. Exactly the same process. I am fortunate that my boys make a huge positive deal out of me saying good-bye in the morning, and I get the loud, "DADDY!" with the sprint toward me each day when I walk in the door. Those are awesome moments that I can look forward too.
  • Leaving for work, especially on a Monday is hard when they are so little.  It doesn't get much easier unfortunately, when they get a bit bigger.  My wife leaves roughly around the same time as me, so our son gets up right around the same time and there are days he cries when I head out... breaks your heart.
  • This morning we dropped little Jake off at daycare for the first time. My wife was okay with it until we got to the point where we said goodbye to him as we laid him in his crib there. It was rough to see that for sure.

Last Friday she went back to work.  When she returned home she saw a card that Jacob had "picked up" for her at the mall when we went there earlier in the day. IT made her day to see that, so....

Gentlemen, when you get to this point, get the wife something from the little one. It will get you those "perfect husband" shout-outs that are so hard to come by!!!
