Using Diaper Rash Cream to Treat Eczema

My eczema is getting out of control on my arms and is SO itchy! I have been avoiding any medications and just sticking to lotion. Today, I had the idea to use baby rash cream (Zincofax X Strength) that I had at home but now I am scared I have used something that may harm my unborn baby? I am 31 weeks. I figured if it was safe for a newborn to use, it should be safe for me.. thoughts? I've only used it this once!

  • I hear you on the meds thing, but I have to use the roids when mine gets bad. Nothing else helps. The OTC has such a small amount and offers much relief. If you have to use it, I wouldn't stress to much. Just check with your OB. I'm sure it's fine.

  • *too* much :) Oh and the the whole pat dry thing and use mild soap. I'm sure you're doing that already.

  • You could check EWG's Skin Deep database to see what the level of safety of the ingredients are and make a decision from there.

That would be my thought process too. Call your OB tomorrow if you're worried.

  • I use Aveeno baby lotion ( the unscented one).  It works so well for my eczema.

  • I'm sure it's fine.  Our whole family has eczema though, so my advice is this:  Soak in a bath (not too warm) for at least ten-twenty minutes, then use something like Cetaphil cream all over (this works best for us.) For really bad patches, hydrocortisone (safe) and Triple Cream (on the baby aisle, not paste, cream) work well.
