I want to do potty training at xmas, but I don't want to move to a bed yet
dd is SUPER head strong, and usually walks around her crib a bit at nap time before she lays down to take a sleep. I just know that if we move her to bed she won't take a nap anymore (that's what happened to 2 of my friends with toddlers).
I'd rather wait until she doesn't need a nap so much (if she doesn't take one she wakes a lot in the night because she's overtired - definitely still needs it....).
But can that work with PTing? I guess maybe if we continue diapers at night for awhile (she still wakes up REALLY wet anyway) it won't really matter? just do undies during the day?
Re: anyone PT while dc is still in a crib ?
DD is still in a crib and will be until next August when her cousin moves out to go to college. She PT at 26 months (daytime) and I figured I would keep her in diapers at night for a while even though she was waking up dry most nights (she would be dry for several nights and then she would be wet for 2-3 nights and I was too lazy to want to deal with that). But 2 weeks later she didn't want the diapers at night anymore and has done great (she's 2.5 now). The only accident she had was when she hadn't pooped in a couple of days and I think that pressure caused her to wet the bed.
The crib thing isn't really an issue right now. She rarely needs to go pee at night. But even when she does she still needs my help anyway so even if she was In a regular bed I would still need to get up to help her. On top of that she is still in a sleep sack too so she needs help with that. When she does need to go I do everything in the dark. Her potty is right by her bed. This way she knows it isn't party time and the few times she did need to pee she went back to bed without any problems.
if you DD is still waking up wet I wouldn't even worry about the night time right now. Just PT during the day and she will be ready at night in her own time (you can't really train them, they have to be physically ready). Since I was a bed-wetter I figured DD would take a long time for the night time dryness but she proved me wrong.
Good luck with the PT. My DD is very head strong too and I had to give her total control of the potty, if I asked/to her to go potty she totally refused. Giving her control worked great (still does).
Yes DD was daytime trained by 18 months. (this isn't typical). She just moved to a twin bed until she was 21 months.
We will not even try to night train for a while that has MUCH more to do with size of bladder, how deep they sleep ect.
