So our twins arrived on tuesday October 30, 2012.
I was getting up in the morning for the day of work......it was suppose to be my last week of work. I had to go to the washroom but I was in no hurry to struggle once again to get out of bed so I just layed there for another couple of minutes and then my water broke. Although I thought I had peed in the bed, and it took me about 15 minutes to realize that it was my water and not pee. DENIAL I think, so I called the hospital they said to come right away, but I said I had to ice cup cakes and take my son to school ( school is on the way to the hospital ) the nurses said that was fine but if I started any contractions then I was to head in right away. Once ready my husband son and I piled into the van and headed out. We dropped my son off at his child care ( also my work ) by this point my pants were soaked, even through a pad. After taking him to child care we stopped and got some gas and some McDonalds breakfast. Once we arrived at the hospital I was examined and I was at 2 cm dilated. They gave me the meds for Strep B as I had not tested for it yet. Once admitted they gave me pitocin and the contractions began. The epidual arrived at 12:20 pm and man I was beggin for it lol. So the Dr started to epidural and we couldn't figure out why it wasn;t working, then he just started giving me more direct shots and still not working so he asked the nurse how far along I was and suggested she check me. SO she checked me I was at 9.5 cm and Baby A was crowning. Talk about panic for everyone all of a sudden. I was on a stretcher my OB was called and we were all on our way to the OR. Once there my epidural started to kick in.......enough for me to feel the contractions, but not the babies coming out. After about 9 pushes Baby A arrived at 1:29pm then they checked with the ultrasound machine to make sure Baby B was still head down.......he was so the pushing continued after about 7 pushes Baby B made his debute at 1:38pm.
Baby A is Avery-Anna Heather weighing 4 lbs 12 oz
Baby B is Carter Jacob weighing 5 lbs 6 oz
We were in the hospital for 3 more days after delivery. No NICU time for either baby. Both had a bit of Jaundice so we had to see out family doctor on the Monday after being discharged. Thats when we found our that Avery-Anna dropped her weight to 4 pounds scary!!!!! and Carter dropped to 5 pounds scary but not as scary. We had to get their weights up or they were going to have to have feeding tubes. I ended up finding a bottle with a small enough nipple for her mouth that all she does is eat like a champ. We went back to the doctor 3 days later and her weight was 4 lbs 10 oz and he was 5 lbs 3 oz. So we are back on track.
So far things are great they eat every 3 hours so I only have to get up twice in the night to feed. They eat about 20 minutes apart of eachother and that works out great.
I love them both so much and our son is in love with them too. He is protective of his little sister already. He says I love Carter mommy but Avery-Anna is special. So sweet. He helps all the time and snuggles, holds, changes, and helps feed them all the time. I love him so much and I love our new babies so much too. Not bad considering I was terrified to have twins. Once they arrived I knew it would be okay.
Thanks to all of you for your tips, advice and laughs throughout my pregnancy. I sure will be around for more throughout the next 20 years.
Thanks
Robin
