Nausea and constipation...

I am 6 weeks and have felt horrible for the past few days. I have constant pain in my upper stomach like when you have severe gas and the pain is making me nauseous. I have also been constipated for a few days which is not normal for me. I know it's not the iron in my prenatals because I've been taking them for a long time and haven't had this issue. Is this normal? What do I do? I've taken miralax and its not helped.

Re: Nausea and constipation...

  • Constipation is normal during pregnancy. If the miralax isn't helping, you can try colace as a stool softner. Just make sure you don't get a laxative. You can also try mixing coconut water into a smoothie and that should help move things along.

  • I've had the same problem, your doctor should be able to prescribe something to make it better! I've been taking mine for a few days and I feel better although not 100% yet x
  • i did research on docusate sodium, the main ingredients, in  colace and it's classs C, which seriously made me look at my doc and go seriously??? back top prunes, fruit, walking and water and its working better :) ok i noticed too much meat also clogs  me up a lot...
  • yeah, me too. I think because the nausea means I'm eating a lot more simple carbs than I would otherwise (yay, saltines!). I've been eating prunes and dried apricots, which seems to help a bit? And trying to eat foods high in fiber whenever I think I can stomach them.

  • I am all to familiar with that stomach pain. It goes hand in hand with my nausea and is constantly present. I'm on zofran for an awful case of HG. That causes a lot of problems with constipation. I would like to suggest eating fruit like apples or plums if they don't turn your stomach. I have had trouble keeping anything down. Thought I was dying after eating a tangerine and paid for it for an entire night through the next morning with relentless vomiting and cramping. But apples have been kind to me. Especially the crispy red ones. Hope you are feeling better soon.
