HandsFree pumping bra?

Hi ladies!
Zulily is advertising a sale on handsfee pumping bras so I thought I'd check in with you to see if anyone used these. Was it helpful? If you didn't have one do you wish you had? I don't want to spend the extra bucks if it isn't worth it but don't want to miss the sale if it is. : Thanks!

Re: HandsFree pumping bra?

  • I got the Medela one and paid ~$30 for it.  Right after that someone mentioned to me that they had just cut small holes in an old sports bra that they had on hand.  I didn't really like the Medela one, but I did the sports bra thing and it was awesome.  The straps on the sports bra helped hold the pump in place since it has some weight to it.

Just a thought if you wanted to go that route.

Paying money for a "special" one = Sad

    My 2 cents.  HTH!

I think it depends.  I had big boobs (34 H) and a sports bra would have never worked.  I purchased a simple wishes for $35 (cheap IMO).  Lasted me 2000+ pump sessions.  Easily best purchase baby related I ever made.  I recommend it to all of my patients and our hospital gift shop is getting it to sell.

I agree with the Simple Wishes handsfree bra! It is adjustable in the back with velcro so you can make it tighter/looser as needed. It comes with optional straps but I never used them and it stayed up just fine. A hands free system is a MUST if you are going to be pumping with any regularity. I could even bottle feed a baby on my knees and pump at the same time (takes some practice...)! Also was the best money I spent on a baby related item. I don't know what kind of bra is on Zulily, but keep in mind that their shipping is outrageous!

Also, your siggy pic is hilarious. Love it!

  • I did the sports bra thing too and it worked great. Just start with really small holes and them make them bigger later if you need to.

At the hospital the nurses taught me how to just poke a hole in the bra with a ball point pen. It worked great!

The simple wishes one will work for huge boobs. It's totally adjustable and comes in different sizes as well. i highly reccomend it. It makes my life so much easier, I pump min 4 hours a day and it's a lifesaver.

  • I just took an old regular underwire bra that still fit and cut holes into it.   Works perfectly and sort of free since I already had one.  None of my sports bras fit right now.

  • I used a Pump Ease and liked it.  Definitely worth it.  I bought a sale color for $25.

  • I bought one and SO wished I had gotten it sooner.  Very worth it, I could pump and feed both babies bottles at the same time which was a lifesaver in the middle of the night.  I never tried to make my own, I was worried about the suction and the bottles getting too heavy ( I was pumping 15ish ounces out of 1 side and like 10 out of the other at a session).

  • I only pump at work so I need it so I can continue working and not lose time.  I don't understand how people double pump comfortably without it to be honest.  I had a Medela one last time around and this time I've got a Simple Wishes.  I'm also a 44H/I so they do fit large breasts.

Indifferent All I can say is WOW. I have battled with oversupply and the most I've pumped out of BOTH sides is 16oz in one session. I'm having a terrible time weaning from the pump too. I bet that was awful for you! Clogged duct city!

On the other hand, you could feed both babies with just two pumping sessions...

It was insane, I was pumping over 120 ounces a day, I actually got such a deep duct infection from my severe oversupply that I had to quit.  I pumped 1 1/2 ounces of pure blood so the LC was like be done or you will end up crazy sick.  So it wasn't such a great thing!  I now am 'that woman' who warns about over pumping in the beginning!  But when I didn't have the hands free bra, it was horrible to have to sit there and hold the bottles up, and then change them without dropping the other one...it was a mess.

I had huge nursing boobs, too (34 H as well) and the sports bra worked fine for me.  But I did not pump much.  If you're planning to pump frequently it might be worth the "real" hands-free bra.  If you're only going to be an occasional pumper I would try the old sports bra before investing any money.

  • I have medium boobs & hated the makeshift sports bra/pumping bra. It wasn't tight enough. I got a medela one that was better - it was strapless at least so it was way easier to get on/off. It wasn't perfect but got the job done. Pumping w/o a pumping bra is awful. A hands-free bra of somme kind is a must.
