Special Needs

we got our diagnosis

We finally had our appointment with the psycologist to test for ASD. Landon was placed on the spectrum. The doctors basically told us that Landons's case was "weird." That he has a lot of strengths that typically you don't see in children with Autism, but his communication and behavior landed him on the mild end of the spectrum. They did not break down his diagnosis, and I really need to talk to them about this, but in looking at the final report, he really looks like he is at PDD-NOS.

We were already in speech and OT. I am currently looking into ABA. One awesome thing is the local elementary school has a special needs preschool. So basically since he will age out of EI at 3, the school system will automatically pick him up 3 times a week and he will receive speech and OT there. I did not know they offered this at all!

We are pretty sure SPD and possibly ADHD are both in our futures, but only time will tell. My little boy has been improving tremendously and I could not be more proud of him!

Anyway, no point to this post but to say hey and tell my story. I know everyone here has one:)

Re: we got our diagnosis

  • Glad you got some answers and that you have a plan in place for his services! Great to hear how much he's been improving!

  • Glad to hear your a proactive parent! I work with children on the spectrum as an ABA therapist. I would highly recommend starting ABA as young as he is. If you can find the right program from your area you will see great results. The field is changing to a lot more natural version of teaching versus a "robotic" look. Most ABA programs will focus on any social or communication deficits your child may have.
