Most dr. recommend to wait till your 6 week pp checkup. Depending on your recovery they will release you at that time. That being said, if your recovery has not gone good they will probably not release you till 8-10 weeks.
Also, if you plan on having sex before you get back on BC you should definitely use condoms/spermicide. My FI and I were using them but one night got drunk and forgot and here I am only 4 1/2 months pp from having my DS2 and I'm 12 weeks pregnant. Not saying it happens to everyone but you are more fertile after having a baby. I will now have to be watched near the end to make sure incision is ok from c-section in June.
We waited the full 6 weeks after first cs, but only waited about 4 weeks with the second one. I think it is best to wait until after your 6-week check-up. Make sure to use birth control of some kind. It can be a bit dicey carrying a baby in a not fully healed incision.

6weeks and I thought it wouldn't be as bad as having a vaginal delivery but I was still scared. I waited til my 6 weeks appt to make sure. As I get more feeling back sometimes the area by my incision feels more sensitive then it did 6 weeks pp so I'm still careful.
You do know that waiting 6 weeks has nothing to do with your vagina and everything to do with the gaping open wound in your uterus from the placenta, right? Having sex or using tampons could introduce bacteria, and with an open wound, that could lead to so very serious problems.
You are told to wait 6 weeks for a very real reason. Many women are healed before then, but not everyone, so they err on the side of caution as pretty much everyone has healed from the placenta by that point.
And if you do decide that you are Tori Spelling and need to have sex to keep your husband around, make sure you use protection and aren't one of those women that shows up pregnant at their 6 week appointment.

Well, I was cleared to have sex at my 2 week PP appointment (with a stern warning about using condoms), and we had sex at 3 weeks PP. I would definitely recommend following your OB/MW's advice.
Me too, but I was still pretty sore and bleeding so we waited until I was more comfortable, which was at about 4 weeks pp.
The real question is who wants to? Even after my second child I was too damn tired. We got back to it around 7 weeks pp, even though I was cleared at 5. I told DH I wasn't cleared because dammit, I wanted to sleep. He can watch youporn and take care of his needs himself.

Sex? Are you kidding me? I'm 9 months PP and have NO interest. The way I feel right now if I never had sex again I'd be fine. I do it for DH but could care less.
I was cleared at two weeks w/ DD and we did - I was just fine (used condoms). Hoping for the same this time too. I don't think we have ever gone longer than two maybe three weeks in the thirteen years we have been together. The idea of waiting six weeks would make me very sad Apparently I am a horndog though
Also cleared at 2 weeks and did at on DS's 1 month birthday. It was fine - didn't set the world on fire but nothing hurt. FWIW, I had a very uncomplicated recovery and probably would have waited longer had that not been the case.
