It definitely depends on where I'm working/when I have to be at work. I don't really see any reason not to put her on the bus, especially in my little town.
I'm actually not sure if we're far enough way for him to get the bus but if it's an option then he'll be riding as soon as it's available. Now walking to and from the bus stop by himself is another story...
The elementary school he'll go to is in our neighborhood, so if we're still here, he'll be a "walker". But I'd probably let him on the bus in 1st grade if we move further away. I actually look forward to taking him to the bus stop. My grandfather used to take me to the bus stop every morning when I was a kid, and I have such fond memories of that.

If DD goes to the school we plan on sending her to (French school), she'll be walking for k-12 since its across the street. That said, I would have no problem putting her on the bus as soon as she started. I don't get people who drive their kids to school....
What is the concern about school buses for people? nbsp;safety? nbsp; The other kids? nbsp;I'm not sure I get it of course, I am a small town girl.
I'm not too concerned with DS riding the bus. But I will say that I learned about the birds and the bees on one of my many bus rides to school and my best friend used to fall asleep on the bus and miss her stop. I'm not going to be paranoid about the bus but I won't blame anyone for their paranoia.
I voted that DD will ride the bus starting in kindergarten. However, it will ultimately depend on which elementary school she goes to and who is getting her on/off the bus. If she goes to the elementary she should (closest to our house), the bus actually does not come up my road. She would have to be driven to the end of our road (1/2 mile) to get the bus. My parents would likely be getting her on/off the bus, so being driven to/from school would depend on what they feel like doing. Or, since their house would go to the same school, she could also get the bus at their house. If DD goes to the school closest to my MIL (across the street from her neighborhood), she would ride the bus for about 5 minutes.
I voted SS- I am not at all opposed to the bus, but our elementary school is two blocks away in one direction, and our middle school two blocks in the other, so J won't have a bus to ride until high school.

This. As of now I SAH, but who knows where I'll be in 5 years. If I'm still staying at home I'll just drive her.
I have a bit of a panic attack when I think about putting her on the bus. I remember more than one instance when I was in kindergarten when the bus driver skipped my stop!

I put SS because riding the bus costs money and I will end up driving or walking Nat to school (we live across the street from an elementary school right now).

I know a horror story of something that happened to a little girl of one of my moms friends that puts me firmly in the never ever ever camp. But it's something that I'll never be able to unhear, so I'll give you the option before I scar all if you for life with the story.

So, my moms friend had a little girl who rode the bus home, and after a while the bus started dropping her off later and later. Just a few minutes extra a week. Finally the mom noticed how late she was getting home, asked a million questions and found out that the sicko bus driver was dropping off all the other kids then taking this girl out to a field somewhere and raping her before bringing her home. Like I said, I can never un hear that. :[ I feel all panicky just writing it out.

I have no idea how far away we are from the elementary school she'll be attending to know if we'll be a bus family or not. She definitely can't walk there, but I think we're on the line of being too close to have the bus come to us. I have no problem with her riding the bus, but as someone else said, going to the bus stop is another thing altogether.
I will have to drive our youngest to daycare anyway, so next year when DS #1 starts kinder I will drive him. I'm in the camp of he won't ever be on a bus if he doesn't have to be. Horror stories are a huge part. Another aspect - I see no reason for him to be on a bus for an hour before school even starts. I can drop him off in time so that won't be an issue. Same for pick-up. I hated riding the bus as a kid - it took forever to get home and I was one of the first picked up and the last dropped off. I hated it.
