Our first cold

Well, the day is here. DD has her first cold. She got progressively more congested as the day went on. Her naps were only 30 min a piece [normally an hour to 1.5 hrs]. She is currently settling down for the night.
Wish us luck and feel free to give me your cold survival tips!

Re: Our first cold

  • Oh no!  Your poor DD :(  When DS had a cold about 6 weeks ago, we moved him back to the RNP in our room (he still fits in it, just prefers being able to roll around in his crib) both so that he was close by and because the incline was better for the congestion.

The only other things we did differently were run the humidifier at full blast, baby Tylenol when he spiked a fever and using the nasal aspirator all the time, much to his displeasure.

Hope she feels better soon and that it's not too rough of a night!

  • DS went his first 5 months with no colds, and since starting daycare has had one pretty much every other week since, so I've gotten pretty good at dealing with them, unfortunately (he has one now, as a matter of fact).

We run a humidifier in his room while he sleeps and put Baby Vicks on the bottoms of his feet. I don't remember the exact reasoning why my ped recommended putting it on his feet (something about pores and absorption), but it works. And of course, like pp, meds when there's a fever - DS fights us the least with Little Fevers grape flavor. I like it better than the others because you can get it without dyes.

Good luck! Hope your LO feels better soon!

  • Humidifier and saline spray are miracle workers! GL

  • Humidifier, baby saline mist, nosefrieda and putting a blanket or something under one end of the mattress so dc sleeps at a slight incline.  And wash your hands a lot.  I have been more sick since dd started daycare than I have in a long time.

  • Thanks everyone! She did ok during the night. Just needed us at 3 AM. I am thankful we sleep trained awhile ago, because she was able to soothe herself back to sleep a few times.

I would rather be sick a thousand times than have her be sick! Sick babies are so sad.

Me too!  My son also seems to have a much better immune system than me because he'll come home with sniffles and mine turns into a full blown cold. Everyone at day care got stomach flu except him but he brought it home and my husband and I got it. Like OP said, I'd rather be sick than the baby but I'd rather not be sick at all!
