What happened to the days...

when they had PJ's from Sears (big, fluffy, fleecy ones with Winnie the Pooh) and you could put regular PJ's underneath?  The ones they have now are soooo tight and uncomfortable.  No wonder the kids want them off.  They aren't that warm either.  My DS wakes up with cold hands, feet (even though there are feet in them) and nose.  Why do they make them so tight now?

  • I find Carters to run very big ... at least on Michelle.  Any other ones seem to be more "fitted" for a lack of a better word.

Michelle doesnt like them anyways....dont like her feet covered.

  • I think it's a safety thing...but I'm not sure why.  Every pair of pj's I've ever bought (no matter where from) has had a tag that says that they should fit snug.

  • They are certainly snug.  I wasn't sure it was because of fire or suffocation safety.  What do people do when babies are really chubby?  My DS is skinny and they are tight on him.  Personally, I am cold myself if I have on tight fitting clothes so I'm sure DS is...especially since his hands, feet and nose are cold when he wakes up.  We have our thermostat set at 72...so it is not that the house is that cold either.
  • I found some character pj's at BRU and Kohl's that are like regular pj pants (loose) and have regular fitting tops. I know I can't sleep in tight clothes. BTW, I think it's for safety, too, but at 19 mo. I don't think my ds is going to bunch them up and suffocate.

  • Allison has some jammies w/feet from Target.   They are big and cozy.  The ones that say they have to fit snugly are not flame resistant.
  • My mom got my son one pair of PJ's that I'm still convinced aren't sized right but they ARE big and fleecy and cozie looking.  But the rest are thin and like what you're talking about.

I do think it's about fire safety - perhaps less fabric, tighter to you, is less likely to result in "catching" a flame.  But what I don't get is who has open flames in their house???  We have an electric stove and the only time we light a candle is in our kid-free basement if we stink up the bathroom.  And it's a nice cinnamon candle ;)
