Pregnant after IF

Success after cancelled/converted IVF?

Hi everyone,

I generally post on IF but could really use some encouragement today. I just found out today that i need to convert my IVF cycle to an IUI because of only one large follicle. I have a low AMH but the doctor has never mentioned it as a problem before bc I actually over responded to clomid. Has anyone had this happen and ended up with good news (either from the IUI or the next IVF)? The doctor and nurse told me there are options but it seems scary when IVF is the end of the road....

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Re: Success after cancelled/converted IVF?

  • My first attempt at IVF was cancelled because of low response.  My second attempt (same basic protocol, added menopur, higher doses of bravelle) yielded 38 eggs, 33 mature, 25 fertilized.  I had a c/p that cycle but am currently pg with twins after FET1.

Being cancelled is devastating but know that your doctors don't want to cancel you and most often do so because they think they can do better with a different approach.  Hang in there!

  • I was also cancelled with IVF attempt #1.  It was extremely hard and frustrating (as you know!).  The next try we used a different protocol and I responded much better.  I got my BFP on our first FET cycle after the IVF that wasn't cancelled.

As much as it sucks to not get to move forward with IVF, your doctor now has some information about how you respond to the protocol you started with and will likely modify your approach for next time.  Best of luck to you!

  • My first IVF cycle was canceled, due to being overstimulated.  That was a sucky day... Sad  Keep your chin up!

They adjusted my meds...and my second IVF cycle was a success!

After it was all over....I'm so thankful it happened the way it did.  I would much rather have to cancel a cycle, and give them the opportunity to make adjustments....than to have gone through with it completely and find out it failed.

    Good luck with your IUI!

  • In my first IVF cycle, I was put on a low dose of stims because I overstimulated on a low dose of Follistim during an IUI. That cycle was a dismal failure due to a dominant follicle. We cancelled on trigger day and did not do an IUI. On my next cycle, I was on Lupron St.op instead of Antagonist and had a great response. That cycle failed, but my next cycle with the same protocol was a success. My RE never tested my AMH because he said he already knew I needed a high dose of stims, so there was no reason to run the test. It was a shock to have such a poor response, especially given my excellent response to a low dose in the past. I'm so sorry you are having a similar situation!! Hoping your next cycle brings you good news!

  • My first IVF was cancelled due to crazy high E2 levels and being no where near ready for ER. It was devistating, but it was the right thing to do.  My RE tweeked my protocol from that experience and IVF 2 I got pregnant but ot for long:-( We did the same routine for IVF 3 and here I am! Good luck!

  • My first IVF was cancelled due to a low/slow response 6 days in.  I was devastated!  You work so hard to get there and to be cancelled just SUCKS.  The good part, the changed my protocol, and IVF 1.2 was MUCH better.  I ended up responding and we implanted two excellent grade blasts.  I get to see next Tuesday how many decided to stick around, but as of right now, I know at least one did.  Good luck!!
