tips to get rid of nipple shield

I've read to start out with the shield and remove it midway the feeding. I've tried that and will keep trying, but everytime I do that, my baby just makes a face like my nipple is the worst thing he's ever put in his mouth......and I end up putting the nipple shield back on.

Any other tips for success?

Re: tips to get rid of nipple shield

  • I started doing it at the beginning when he was really hungry. I always made a "nipple sandwich" to make it easy as possible for him to latch on. He took off around 38-39 weeks adjusted. Good luck! It's so nice to ditch it!

  • I did the opposite, offered just the nipple first, especially at night when she was sleepy.  After about a week she just latched and stayed instead of being fussy.  I was really relaxed about the whole weaning from the shield, probably because I was just so happy she was breast feeding and I could unplug the darn pump.  She was 1 month actual before she could breastfeed and 2 months actual before she latched without the shield.

    Stick with it!
