1st Trimester

Alka seltzer and emergen-c?

Hello! The other day I posted about what cold medicine if any was safe during the first trimester. I only received a few responses about tylenol, cough drops, and certain robotussin being safe. What about alka-seltzer and emercen-c? My husband and I had the same symptoms and both went to sleep at 9 p.m. last night, only he took alka-seltzer and I took tylenol and he is a new man today and I am still struggling to get through the day.

Re: Alka seltzer and emergen-c?

  • I believe alka selzter is a no no cause it has aspirin (but i might be wrong). I have been splitting a pack of emergen-c with DH a few times a week since we were without heat for over a week and didnt want to get sick. As far as I know it is just a bunch of vitamins. Hopefully its ok...We mix it with cranberry juice (got the pink lemonade flavor). Feel better!

  • I believe you can take emergency c but double check with your Dr. This is one downside of being pregnant and being sick. Lack of meds you can take.

  • Thanks! I just called my Dr. and the nurse said emergen-C is safe and so is zicam. I think I will see if I feel better over the weekend and then only take Monday if I need it.

  • emergen-c should be ok as long as you are only drinking one package a day.
