Very early in pregnancy (6wks), and very recently married. We got asked out to dinner/drinks with friends who know I love a glass or two of wine. How do I abstain without letting on that I am expecting? I don't want ANYONE to know until we're able to tell his parents, and even then we're hoping to wait until at least December to reveal.

 Husband suggested I say I'm on an antibiotic but I feel that might not be a believable-enough explanation.

Say you are just getting over a cold/sickness (that is if anybody asks) you don't have explain anything.

I would either say I was sick, I was driving, or order a fake cocktail.  Sprite with cran juice and a lime?

You could say that you are on some flu medicine or something and you are not supposed to drink with it.

Everyone knows we were trying so I have just been using that as our excuse until we tell people.

What I did was go to the bathroom after the server dropped off the menus or whatever, and then I'd find the server and let her know I was hiding a pregnancy and that I was going to order a cocktail but to make it virgin. I did that almost a dozen times before I was ready to tell my friends (we got out for dinner and drinks a lot!) and it seemed to work. I'm normally a beer drinker, so it might have been a little suspicious even though I made sure to talk about how beer has been making me feel too full lately and I've started getting into mixed drinks more. Maybe you could say something like that if you normally order wine. Good luck!

I had a 30th b-day party last weekend, and I ordered a glass of wine, and held it all night long... When i went to the BR, I would dump out some. Not one person noticed and a few friends thought I was drinking heavily haha. 

I then ordered a virgin drink, and the bartender questioned it, so I just said, I am driving, which was the truth. 

I would do what the one poster suggested.. tell the waiter to bring a virgin :-)

I sat next to H and ordered a beer that I knew he would like. I took a few very small sips from it complained a little about how I didn't like it, and when it was time to eat and no one was really paying attention I slid it over to him to drink.

Say you are on antibiotics for an ear infection or something else that doesn't sound to gross for you to be out!

ty everyone for all of the great and clever ideas. Everything went fine - I said I was on not one but TWO antibiotics the doc said not to drink on... I love the idea of running to the bathroom to pour it out...

 I am so anxious to get to the point when I can tell my friends! Waiting until later in December.
