Trying to Get Pregnant

Nasal Congestion....How early?

My boyfriend and I have been trying to conceive for a few months. My biggest issue is that I don't have a predictable period. Some months it will be 24 days long. Some months it will be 36 days long. So, I have no clue really how many DPO I am. I temp everyday, but this month's chart is weird. My temps have gone up and down a lot, probably because I woke up cold a few times. I had dips on day 8, 15, and 17. I started using test sticks this month, but then I realized I was testing at the wrong time. I didn't know there was a really short window for testing and I probably missed my ovulation day. So, like I said, no idea how many DPO I am. I am on day 24 of my cycle right now.

But here's why I'm posting...Since Saturday (6 days ago/19th day of cycle), I've had a stuffy nose with no other symptoms. My contacts have also been bothering me like they do when the veins in my eyes swell. To me, this seems like an increase in blood flow, which causes rhinitis of pregnancy. However, I'm finding conflicting information on the internet. The articles about rhinitis of pregnancy state it starts as early as two months or eight weeks, but users have posted it showing up in the first month.

Edited to add that I've been really fatigued and last night I felt nauseous when I laid down to go to bed. Not sure if it's connected.

If you've had nasal congestion during pregnancy, when did it first appear? Would it be too early for me to have it?

Pretty sure nasal congestion is the first sign of a cold. In November. Shocking.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

  • Except that it started 6 days ago and I have no other symptoms...no sore throat, no high temperature, nothing..
  • Damn. Here I am thinking I was out last month because I got my period. I've had nasal congestion since the middle of October. I must seriously be KTFU. Fluck taking a test. I'm going to go schedule an appointment with my O/B since I should be coming up on 7 weeks soon.

Time to go buy maternity clothes and start stalking the baby aisles! FLUCK YEAH!

  • This question will probably not be well received here. You might want to ask on first tri. That being said, it's way too early for you to have any symptoms if you we're actually KU.

  • OP, have you taken a pg test?

As Auroraloo said - sounds to me like a cold.  Also, I don't understand this: you say your cycle ranges from 24 days - 36 days and you're on CD 24 and you have no idea how many DPO you are.  But then you say you were 19dpo on Saturday?!?!?

I suggest you take a test. Happy face for you if you're pregnant.  Sad face if you're not pregnant AND are sick.

If you want to take a test because you think this may be a symptom, take a test! You don't need anyone's permission to do that. But if you're going to test at any possible symptom, no matter how far out there it is, I would go to the dollar tree or walmart and get cheapies because you're going to go through a lot of them.

Just like congestion is a symptom of a cold, allergies, flu...but maybe you're right, it's more commonly a sign of pregnancy.

That's the problem, NO ONE would ever consider a stuffy nose a pregnancy symptom unless they'd read it on the internet. I've had 3 kids and had LOADS of friends who had kids, and not one of them has ever said 'Gee, I have a stuffy nose, I wonder if I'm knocked up??'.

    Due with #5 April 22, 2015. It's a girl!!!!!

Yes it was planned, yes we know what causes that, no we are not on public assistance, and yes we will be getting cable after this. ;)

  • My nose and sinuses are chronically stuffy so if rhinitis of pregnancy happened to me unfortunately I wouldn't even notice =(.  FWIW, I know where you're coming from though. For the past two cycles I've had what seemed like new or more severe symptoms that I wanted to attribute to pregnancy more than anything.  But, I know they're just because this whole experience is making me have a heightened focus on my body and don't necessarily mean I'm KU at all.  I've only been trying for two months now myself, and F**K does this process play mind games with you!

Seeing as a test is the only sure way to tell if you're pregnant, of course you should 'bother' to take one. Possible symptoms are just that, possibilities...you're hoping two be pregnant so you're reading into things you might otherwise never even make note of. I mean, if you weren't TTC you would never think nasal congestion was anywhere near a pregnancy symptom, you'd be looking at allergies, dry air/oncoming winter, a cold, etc.; nothing so far fetched as pregnancy. And really, if you're serious about TTC, you wouldn't consider taking a test to be any kind of 'bother', not if you actually want to know for sure!

  • I don't know if you are pregnant or if this is a symptom of pregnancy.

That being said, when I got pg with DS, I DID in fact, have a stuffy nose and felt like I was going to get a cold, but it lingered for a few weeks and found out that I was pg.  I don't know if that was just coincidence though.

  • I didn't get nasal congestion during pregnancy except when I had a cold.

I did get other obvious signs of increased blood flow. They started at about 15 weeks...I can't remember exactly when but definitely no earlier than 12-13 weeks.

So, NO you could not be experiencing increased blood flow now, on the 24th day of your cycle, no matter when you ovulated.
