if it were my mom who had this idea and had taken the picture maybe I would find it funny but if my MIL or FIL did this I would be furious! This sounds mean but I completely know that my mother would have the oven off but MIL........I would have to question her!
Nope not in the least bit.. I've gotten the eye roll a couple times with the whole "we've done this before" but that doesn't excuse this behavior. Grandparents gotta remember they raised their children in different way (eg- stomach vs back sleeping). Sometimes people have to realize that you aren't being mean... you are simply concerned for your child since you can't be there-- and would be that way with ANYONE. They should respect your wishes... sometimes it's better to just leave it (eg- used to piss me off that despite us bringing over a bathtub and asking nicely, MIL would bathe naked with DS without checking with me... eventually I got over it. Now that he's a year old though, that won't be happening).
Sorry this turned into a ramble.. but long story short I might find something like this amusing in a movie or whatver... but you can rest assured I would never leave my child with those people again.
For the reason stated as to why the grandparents did it, no. I'd probably punch them and never let my child be out of my sight again with those two. It would be funny as a general joke, but not when some new parent is leaving their infant for the first time.

I think that the picture of the guy holding the baby in a dish in front of the open oven is funny. I think actually putting the baby in the oven is horrifying, and like PP, I would never leave my baby with them again.

I agree I'd probably freak out and maybe even cry at first but after the fact... yeah I would laugh, I mean it's a really cute joke although I agree it might be a tad better if say grandpa was holding baby in the dish and grandma was holding open the oven...
Proud babywearing, breastfeeding, vaccinating SAHM of 2U2!

I'm with these peeps. I'd cry, come home hysterical with snot dripping everywhere trying to muster some kinda words to express my anger, but seriously, it's funny sh!t and I'd laugh later or halfway through my crazy fit. The thought of a baby in the oven is creepy, but really, I think our parents love our kid beyond anything in the world, and would die for our kid. I think they'd check to see if the oven was off before doing this.

I also wouldn't find this very funny. I probably wouldn't freak out, but I wouldn't appreciate the humor. Putting baby in a turkey roasting pan.. funny. Putting baby in the pan in the oven... inappropriate.
I wouldn't freak out, and it is kind of funny. And how is this any worse than some of the newborn photos where the baby is in a glass bowl or in weird positions?
If it was my parents, or at least my mom, I wouldn't freak. It's obvious it was snapped just for the photo and the baby was never even in the oven with the door closed. I would be upset if it were my in laws but they still haven't watched DS so that probably explains why.
I understand that it could be disturbing to some, believe me I get so upset when I hear stories of child abuse.. But when it's clearly not done in that manner I think it's a different story.
I don't care about the baby in the roasting pan or being in the oven... what bothers me is the reason WHY this pic was taken. The grandparents are mocking the parents' anxieties about leaving their child in the care of someone else. & that's not cool. Yes, the grandparents raised children, but it was probably 30+ years ago... evidently long enough to forget that leaving your baby with someone else for the first time makes lots of parents nervous.
