We're putting in our application to the agency in a
little less than 2 months! It's starting to feel a lot more real, and
I'm a little nervous, to be honest! I'm starting to worry about "what if the agency
doesn't accept us?" or "what if no birthmother picks us?". I should
probably chill out a bit, lol.
I'm just an anxious person sometimes. In other related news, today I found out that our agency has
their waiting families' profiles on their website, so I perused them.
Only one family (out of 7 waiting families and 2 families that are
matched or placed), only one is open to Caucasian/AA children. None are
open to fully AA. I'm kind of shocked! DH and I are open to any race,
ethnicity, or mixture thereof, so perhaps this will help us get matched more quickly.
I also discovered that we are also at least 5 years
younger than all the other waiting parents - the youngest is 31, and the
oldest is 48. We're both 26 (DH will be 27 shortly after we send in
the application). Very interesting. I wonder if this is because many couples don't start trying for a family as young as we did (22), or what.
Eep! Excited for you!! I am also surprised that more people aren't open to interracial adoptions. I understand that there are many identity issues a child can face in an interracial adoption, but fear of those issues wouldn't stop me! Families come in all different forms. Hope the next 2 months fly by for you! Don't let the worry rob you from enjoying this season of expectation for your little one!
