First birthday party ideas

I wish I had thought of this earlier, and hopefully there is no other similar post, but I thought it would be nice if we could all share 1st birthday party ideas/activities.

Hannahsmom25 posted this just a little while ago (I'm totally going to do this too)

-Im going to decorate a box and have everyone write on index cards a note to kyle that he can read later on(we did this with dd and she loves to read them now) and for a game Im going to make poster with pictures of his first milestones and have everyone guess the age he was when each milestone was reached. (also what we did at dds first bday)

What we plan on doing:

- my husband's family is Korean and it's a tradition to put out a bunch of different items in front of the baby such as a golf club, a book, stethoscope, microphone, etc.  Each item represents a future career path.  So golf club = pro golfer, book = academic, stethoscope = doctor, microphone = entertainer/reporter, you get the idea.  Whatever item baby (eeps - toddler?) goes for, is what career path the baby will follow.

-DD will wear a han boek (Korean traditional dress) .

-I'm going to try to do a banner with a picture of DD at each month birthday.

-DD will get her own smash cake!  (I figure traditional ideas are good to include in case people don't know them)

Any other ideas that I can borrow?

Re: First birthday party ideas

  • We did the note in the box too (think I saw something on Pinterest) -- I had people make a wish for her on a notecard and put in a clear small container

I also had a photo album of the month sticker pics and also her professional pics (we only did newborn, 3, 6, 9 12 mos). And I put a pic from each month and put on construction paper and hung up too (seen them on a string too but it didnt work in the room).

We did cupcakes and smashcake. We did presents before the cake in case she was too messy.

Not at the party, but some other tradition - I would like to take her on a day trip or trip or somewhere special for her bday each year too. We went to Cabbage Patch Babyland near our house this year. We had also considered the zoo but it was too cold this year. Nothing extravagant, but just a short trip or special place to visit.

  • I'm taking a picture of all the kiddos at party and framing it Si he remembers who came and maybe something where they make their mark. I am also making a snapfish picture book
    Of his party.
