I've had Mastitis twice before, so I'm all too familiar with the way it feels like you've been hit by a truck.
So anyway, that's how I'm feeling - miserable, achy all over, like it hurts to touch my body. However, I don't have the usual red streak/mark on my boob - though one of my boobs hurts like h ell (but I'm not sure if that's just a normal part of weaning). Do those signs have to be visible in order for it to be Mastitis?
Anyway, my doctor's office is closed until after lunch, so I'm waiting to talk to a nurse. Usually they'll just call in an antibiotic (since I'm so used to Mastitis), but right now I'm not sure if that's what it is, or if I'm just plain sick?
It better not be the effing flu. I don't have time for the flu, don't want to give it to CK, and got the flu shot last week.
Re: Mastitis?
When I got mastitis I didn't get the red splotch until well after I'd realized what it was and got treatment.
I'd say get the antibiotic asap and treat it as if it is. If it's not you just won't get better. Sorry
But if your boob is sore that's what I bet it is.
If you're weaning you need to take it super super slow or you'll end up with mastitis. Are you tapering? Sorry you're feeling icky
Since you are weaning, I'm inclined to say that Yes, it is mastitis. I had it twice also, so I feel for you. And as Alicia said, the worst that will happen is that you take the antibiotic and won't improve, which means it's probably a virus instead.
Since you had mastitis before, you know how quickly you SHOULD feel better after starting the antibiotics.
Feel better.
