We were having a conversation with my girls, ages 4 1/2 and 6 years yesterday in regard to gay marriage - it came up due to something that happened at school the day before and we had sat them down for talk to explain what had happened.  At some point, my DH said something about 2 men getting married and my 4 1/2 year old very seriously asked "if 2 men get married, who is going to wear the dress".  My 6 year old responded "one of the men will have to wear it".  I love how my girls think!  We did explain that both would wear suits or tuxes and they were fine with that!!!

  Thanks!  My kids have never known that 2 men or 2 women couldn't be together and they both have friends who have gay parents so its nothing new to them.  The issue was only brought up as a child in my younger DD's class was using some ugly words and my DD not understanding, repeated them.  The teachers handled the situation great but we wanted to discuss it as well.  We just defeated the marriage amendment here in MN (no definition of who can get married is in our state consitution) so the whole topic of gays and marriage has been huge.  I get and respect that people have different views but wish people would have conversations without using ugly, nasty words - especially when kids that don't understand are around.

I love how kids think. (and I do know a few guys who would wear the dress)!  LOL
