3rd Trimester

Uh... I'm a waxing virgin

And I need the low down. Please. Like the start to finish, this is what you do, step by step, whole story. I don't know anything about getting a brazilian... I think that's what it is? Where you get rid of it ALL?? Does it hurt really bad? Is it worth it? Is it horribly embarrassing? Can someone please provide some TMI, please.

  • Thank you so much for asking this! I've been wondering about this, too. Also, do they let you have bathroom breaks? Bc I pee like every 5 min.

  • well i have a high tolerance for pain and it still stings, i think it's mainly because the roots are thicker down below. i guess it's not that bad. i'd say it's worth it because i don't like to shave - it makes me itchy and it gets so pointy when it grows back :)

  • ugh. not something I personally recommend, but everyone is different. It was the pain that bugged me (my pain tolerance is pretty high so it was like plucking my eye brows) but my skin is sensitive and... well, some skin came off with the hair. :(

  • What????? I didn't know that was a possibility! Yikes
  • I'm a licensed cosmetologist and while I've never performed a brazilian wax before, I can give you some basic info. Waxing hurts ALOT. I would never get a brazilian, but props to anyone who does. They take everything, front to back. and yes skin can lift too. they should let you take as many bathroom breaks as you want, but you should let them know you are pregnant when you make the appointment. you can try using ice on the area after, and maybe take some tylenol before hand. oh and don't forget to tip your service provider! • Brazilian waxing is great, but for me WAY more painful when pregnant. When I got it done pregnant, I had HORRIBLE bruising, and it hurt so bad for over a week, to the point I couldn't stand anything touching the area, even underwear. When I'm not pregnant, I love the results, but it still hurts like a mofo. I would never do it pregnant again, tho. I just shave every day in the shower, it takes 2 min.

  • I'm also considering waxing for the first time (at least for my bikini area), so thanks to all the PP's who gave advice!

I know the hair usually has to be a certain length before they can wax effectively, and I always give up and shave before I have a chance to make an appointment. So I'm curious about how long the hair needs to be before it makes sense to wax? Thanks!

i get brazilians every so often.  Ive had 2 since being preggers.  Im being induced monday and deciding whether or not I should make an appt this weekend.

With a brazilian you get rid of it ALL.  public line, labia, butthole, everything (if thats TMI sorry, was sorta a tmi question).  They usually give you a throw away type thong to wear and have you spread eagle, and have you move your legs in certain positions while they wax each part.  You are all out there for the technician so if youre shy or modest it would be horribly embarassing.  however i know my girl sees lots of vag (ive asked her about this too - everything from 18-70ish years old, strippers to nurses and more...) I think of it like my OB, its her job, whats to be embarassed over.

It is painful and moreso when youre pregnant, at least for me.  But IMO so worth it.  The hair is gone for weeks and youre so nice and clean and smooth after.  I usually save a brazilian for "special occassions" like our wedding night/honeymoon, anniversaries, child birth etc.  If it werent so damn expensive though Id do it all the time.

    Hope that helps!

    This!

I've been getting them for years and love it. However when you are pregnant it does tend to hurt more than normal from all the extra blood flow down there. If it is your first time you might want to hold off.  I was getting them up until about 28 weeks and stopped because it hurts to lay on my back now at 37.4. I am still debating on whether or not to get it one more time before birth so it's one less thing I will have to do in the shower when baby is here.

  • I have been getting Brazilans for about 4 years and have continued through pregnancy.  I was a little nervous b/c each time I had an appt, I'd have a couple cocktails and a couple acetimenophen tablets.  Then after getting pregnant, I had to go in with nothing.  It hasn't been too bad.

Some weeks are worse than others, but my lady is very good at it.  It usually only takes her 30 mins to do and she uses three different waxes depending on the area.  As previously post said it hurts, but is well worth it.  That's why I kept it up throughout pregnancy.  I go every three weeks b/c that is what has worked best for my growth pattern.  Sometimes in the summer I go every two weeks, bouncing between bikini and brazilan so I don't go bonkers with the bikini line being long.

I just had hopefully my last wax before our LO arrives yesterday and it wasn't bad at all.  It's a little akward b/c I can't flip over for her to see the back so my legs are in the air and in weird positions, but I gotta get ready for labor anyway!

I recommend the Brazilan, but probably not for a first timer while they are super pregnant.  It may turn you off all together to start now since you aren't used to it.

  • Before getting pregnant I got brazilians regularly. They're definitely not pleasant, but not the most awful thing ever. They do hurt, but they hurt less after the first time.

I don't really know why I stopped going after BFP, but I did, and was kind of nervous to get one in case it would hurt worse. A friend recommended sugaring, so I tried that.

Sugaring is basically just like waxing, but it's less painful. They make a waxlike substance out of sugar and something else and then roll it over your hair and it grabs the hairs with it.

It hurt too, but truthfully, not as bad as waxing even being 30 weeks pregnant!. The whole thing took about 30 minutes and was not the most uncomfortable experience I've ever had.

With waxing and sugaring I've always been naked from the waist down, but it's those girls job, and I try to remember the wisdom my mom gave me before my very first GYN appointment, "they've seen lots of vaginas, yours is much nicer than most of what they see!"

If you live in or near Portland, I highly recommend Sugar Me in NE. A "Portlander" is 50 and leaves you with a grown up girl size patch up above the lips but removes hair from everywhere else labia, bikini line and butt. I've felt so much more fresh and clean since going, and I plan to keep it up until delivery.

  • I get Brazilians once a month and pre-pregnancy I didn't find them very painful at all (I have a high pain tolerance.)  However, I have a friend who would literally scream every time she got them done.  During pregnancy they have been more painful, and it takes a bit longer for it not to feel sore afterwards, but still nothing I can't handle.  Like PP said though, make sure you're okay with having everything hang out, because the waxer will be seeing all of it.
