Expenses

Hi, Ladies~

I just got the call saying we were approved for 5 doses of Synagis - yay!  And then they started going on about the payment part of things.  This year, we are covered since we met our deductible and OOP max.  And then  there's next year.

I already have take a huge hit out of our savings to cover our NICU bill and other expenses.  I know next year we will be meeting our deductible early, thanks to the Synagis and the specialists that DS is still seeing.  And that means another big dip into our savings that was supposed to go towards a new house.

I know I should just be grateful that DS is home and relatively healthy but I'm struggling with the financial side of this.  Especially since none of this last 4 months have gone as planned.

Please knock some sense into me.  Nicely, since I can't handle any more tears.

Re: Expenses

  • I get what you are feeling. I much rather use all of the money that has gone to medical expenses this past year for something more fun like a vacation or also something practical like a college fund. And like you the bills aren't stopping anytime soon. We have so much to be thankful for so I try not to dwell on it. Things could be much worse!!!!!

Remember savings are also for emergencies too and our LOs are more than worth it!

Is the bold part above and beyond your OOP max?  Because if it's not, I would call it a wash because you would have had that expense with a non-preemie delivery.

As for having to meet the deductible again because of Synagis, since we're talking finance here, I would look at it this way:  You are keeping your baby safe by paying for the shots.  Another stay in the hospital would be far more expensive than the shots, and is far worse than putting off a house for a year.  Or, heaven forbid, losing your LO to RSV when you know there was something that could have done to lessen those chances.

And to the underlined:  As a control freak who is struggling with this too, I say this gently: Welcome to motherhood!
