Naturally combating fall/spring allergies...

Posting this here and in the Food Allergy category. Every dry, windy day (whether in the fall or spring) I get a horrible migraine with stinging eyes, a runny nose, neck ache, and itchy throat. I know it's allergies but now that I'm pregnant and both my doctor and pharmacist are unsure about allergy meds during pregnancy, I want a natural way to help combat this. It keeps me in bed all day. :(

I have heard onions and garlic help but they haven't done much good for me yet-- we eat alot of onions and garlic already.

Re: Naturally combating fall/spring allergies...

  • Have you tried a saline nasal spray or a neti pot with filtered/sterilized water? Those can help flush allergens out of your respiratory tract and help make you more comfortable.

  • I have a saline nasal wash that I have used a few times but I'm not really supposed to be using it when my nose is already stuffy... so when my allergies act up, it is usually too late. I never get around to using it regularly... maybe I should start.
  • Neti potting is going to be your best bet.  Try eating local, raw honey, as well.  It takes about a year of regular consumption to have an impact on allergies, but it's worked well for me.
  • Try drinking stinging nettle tea every day.  Add some local honey to sweeten it.  And maybe raw honey if you're comfortable with that.
