Things to do with Baby

Did you ladies read this on TB? I"m just curious what you've discovered.

I have to say that at least my DD is a bit of the opposite than what they describe here.

Things that they show she sould be doing now, such as rocking/feeding a doll she has absolutely no understanding of that.

But she loves to help with laundry, she plays pick-a-boo, LOVES to tear the paper, looks at books and points and touches all the pics, she also plays ball and has a great time throwing it. She even puts it in front of her feet herself and kicks it, go gets it, sits down, puts in in front of her feet, kics it etc and supposedly those are the things that should be done in toddler stage?

I"m not implying that my baby is a total above average genius (ok maybe a little ;P) but i'm just really curious what you have noticed and how your babies are in comparisson to the article. Just for fun :)

I'm convinced that the people who write for tb have never had children.

So you also find it a bit backwards and I'm not crazy? lol

  • DD does have a doll...that she drags around behind her everywhere because she wants to check everything out and pull up on anything possible, including our cats! She has no interest in rocking or feeding it, but she does love hugging it, along with anything else that's soft.

  • Our LOs seem a bit young to be playing mommy.  I would think that's a later skill when they start developing empathy for others.  I know DS is happy to steal a toy out of another baby's hands without a second thought, so I know he doesn't have empathy yet.  I know he's not a girl, but I'm pretty sure there's not much behavior difference by gender at this age.

Funny you should bring this up -- I was starting to worry because I came across the article and similar while looking for new games ot play with DD and she doesn't do any of this kind of thing! But then I started asking around and now I'm pretty sure it's a bunch of nonsense. DD has a cloth doll -- she chews on it and bangs its head into the ground like she does with all soft toys, if she pays it any attention at all. She has no interest in this kind of play, preferring to chase cats, try to stand and grab/chew/bang/pass back-and-forth anything she can find that is not a toy.

Reading everybody's posts I believe this, too. It just seems totally backwards.

    this!

If my LO had a doll, he'd stick the head in his mouth and crawl around with it hanging out of his face like a dog. no joke.
