Babies: 9 - 12 Months

solids

My babe is in month 9 as of yesterday. She's been eating solids and formula, but how much solids should she be eating per meal?

Unlike previous weeks, she seems to LOVE eating solids and eats much more than before. I wonder if I am feeding her too much?

Re: solids

  • At that age I think I was making a 6 oz bottle, DS would drink most of it and I would use the rest to make his cereal with, usually about 2 scoops.  I would also have a jar of fruit in the morning and a jar of veggies at night.  After he had that, I would offer bits of whatever we were eating, mashed potatoes, really cooked carrots, noodles...He would let us know when he was done.  Hope that helps!

  • it's natural for them to start shifting more toward solids.  Around 9 months, DD got 4 7oz bottles during the day.  I fed her whatever she'd eat at other meals.  Now, at 11 months, she only takes 2 5oz bottles and lots of solids, with WCM at meals.

  • My son is the same age as your babe. He's having 1 5-oz bottle and 3 7 oz bottles per day. He eats quite a bit of solid food, too. For breakfast, probably 1/4 c yogurt and fruit, or a handful of cheerios, a scrambled egg, and half a banana. He eats more than my 3 year old daughter for dinner most of the time and plenty for lunch, too. He must be growing, because it's crazy how much he eats!

  • My babe drinks 4 3-oz bottles per day and two plates of solids (about 3 1.5-oz solids) and two to three snacks (1/2 pear, pouched apples & puffs)

And she poops 3-5 times a day!
