No luck with antagonist, moving on to Lupron

Hi All, I was a former Beach Bum (BFN) then Pumpkin Patcher (cancelled due to low E2) now who know's what I'll be!

My first 2 cycles were antagonist so now I'm going to do long-Lupron.  I know this is more the reverse pathway that's chosen but my RE wanted to switch me up in case I responded better to a different protocol.  Did anyone else experience this?

I'm just waiting on the results of my AMH because of my low E2 levels from this cancelled cycle but plan on doing long_lupron this time around....oh, the waiting.  Sigh.

  • I have no experience with them changing protocol yet, but I just wanted to wish you the best of luck. I am hoping this is the ticket for you!

  • Hi, i will also be switching from antagonist to long lupron for ivf #2.  Judging by my initial afc of 33, we thought we would get a few more eggs than we did at retrieval. My new RE feels I will hopefully respond better with the lupron protocol, since it shuts everything down and then goes in with a bang to grow those eggs. FX it is the right protocl for us! • Hey, sorry about your last cycle being canclled. I've been there, it sucks.

I did the long lupron before my antagonist, and responded slightly better to the antagonist (antagonist with no BD pills and with Estrogen Patch Priming). (5 R & 5 M for long lupron/7R & 7M for antagonist)....BUT I was on BC pills during the long lupron, would this be part of the plan too? I feel like the BC pills really over suppressed me because every time I have been on them my AFC was like 7-8 and I havent been on them since switching REs and my counts have been consistently more like 12 each cycle with a better response.

Good Luck, so sorry youre going through this!!

  • I probably wouldn't have cycled with my RE again, if she hadn't suggested changing protocols.  I was on antagonist for IVF #1.  They didn't retrieve as many follicles as were visible during monitoring, but fertilization was 100% w/ICSI and we transferred 2 perfect 8-cells and 1 lesser 9-cell.  That was as good as I could've hoped for, so I didn't feel repeating that would get us anything better.

This cycle I'll be doing microdose lupron flare, hoping to recruit a few more follicles to stick around until retrieval time.

    Good luck!

  • This is exactly what I'm doing, too -- my first, antagonist protocol cycle had weirdly unfortunate results (see siggy) so now I'm doing long Lupron.  I go in for my initial sonogram/bloodwork tomorrow, and if all is clear, I'll start stims.  Best of luck as you move on to a different protocol as well. BTW, I've had pretty good luck with the Lupron -- the side effects haven't been too distracting. I was worried it would be a much more difficult/annoying protocol than the antagonist.
  • I've had three attempts with antagonist. Although I did get eggs and a few embryos, my new RE suggests we switch to a lupron protocol as well.  We'll be starting in January. Best of luck!
