I really liked What To Expect the First Year, it had a ton of information and I don't think I ever had a question that it at least didn't have some information on. My favorite part is in the back it has a section on illnesses, treatments and when to call the doctor. Also it has a small section near the back regarding adoption as well.
I have to be honest I didn't read any of the books before we were placed with a 5 week old and then a 9 month old. If something comes up I usually go with my gut or google it. You will be amazed on what you just instinctively know to do.
I thought for sure we would be placed with older kids so I read books on temper tantrums, parenting styles. Oops
I'm a fan of Heading Home with Your Newborn--written by two pediatrician moms and published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. Also, the way it was broken down made it easy for me to skip any irrelevant post-partum or breast feeding sections.
Trying to grow our family with both fertility treatments and adoption since March 2009
