Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What should I do?

Ok so I'm looking for advice, suggestions, help....

My DS has never really been a great sleeper, never really slept for more than 5 hours at one time. He will be 7 months in less then a week, and he will NOT sleep in his crib for more then 45 minutes to an hour at a time. He was sharing a nursery with his twin sister (who was waking up everytime he did), so now his crib is in my room.

I know that Co-sleeping is for some people, but I have always been too afraid to try it--I move around way too much. Hurricane Sandy hit us hard here last week (I live in NJ), and during the storm he was in his crib sleeping. He woke up terrified at one point and I allowed him to come into bed with me to sleep. He fell right asleep without fussing and stayed asleep for hours. Every night since then when he wakes up I am unable to soothe him back to sleep in his crib. I have tried rubbing his back, singing to him, shushing him, holding him and bouncing, rocking him, warm bottles, etc.. This all doesn't work. I was up from 2am-5am last night trying to get him to sleep or lay in his crib. Finally I gave in and he fell asleep in bed with me instantly. My DH works nights so I am home alone every night with the twins, and I am not sleeping. I work full time during the day... I am not sure what to do. These babies are my whole world, so I am not frustrated with them (more concerned), I just want him to sleep for his health, and I need sleep for mine... The doctor says he will sleep someday, that some babies go through this. She has said this for almost seven months lol.

I have come to realize that he has to be touching me on my face, or holding my shirt when he sleeps. If I move either away from him a little bit, or get out of bed he will wake up and cry.... Cry it out only wakes his sister up...

Sorry this was so long, and sorry if my grammar/spelling is off today. Is anyone else going through something similar?

Re: What should I do?

  • My son is 8 months and has been starting to not sleep in his crib again.  I am being told it is due to his upper teeth growing in and it is the most painful for babies to have upper teeth to come in.

  • Move him into the nursery to sleep and move his sister into the crib in your room. Do your night routine and put him in the bed ( if you know he is not sick, hungry etc) tell him night night and leave the room.

    Cold turkey.

She can sleep in the crib in your room.  Once he is sleeping again move her back in.
