Besides humidifier, how to help toddler with cold overnight?

My 2.5 year old has a cold and is struggling overnight.  Is there anything I can give him to help with breathing?

  • Slather his feet in baby vicks vapo rub and put socks on him, it works miracles overnight. My mom did this with my sister and I, I still do it when Im sick, and do it with DD.

Also elevate his head, and "flush" out his sinus' with an infant nasal saline. I always feel horrible doing it and DD hates it but it always helps.

Hope he feels better soon. =)

  • i heard the vicks on the feet is a god send. not sure why, but i heard it works. if your child has any sort of asthma issues, i was told to skip vicks. i second the elevation and the saline. time in the steamy bathroom works well too before bedtime.

yup.. vicks on feet works magic!!! ;)

  • Yup, we do the Vick's on feet thing as well! We have also used a Vick's vaporizer that sits on a shelf in his room as well as some Hyland's Cold and Cough medicine for kiddos.

  • I've never put Vick's ON DS, but we have the plug in that goes in the wall. You can buy little discs that go in it and the vapors fill the room. It definitely helps him. Gonna try Vick's on the feet next time too!
