Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Motorola MBP36 Monitor

I purchased this video monitor in September.  Due to several different gift cards I bought the single camera system from Amazon and an additional camera from Walmart.  About 3 weeks after getting them one of the cameras suddenly had no sound.  The hand held part would register with the lights at the top that my 3 year old was making noises but no sound would come through.  After undoing the cord from the camera and then replugging it in, it was fine again.  It has happened 2 times now with that one.  Now suddenly the same thing happened with the camera in my baby's room.  Thankfully I was awake and new he was up or he could have been crying and I never would have known.

Has anyone else with this monitor had these problems?  It's so frustrating especially for how much these things cost.  At first I thought it was random but since its been two different cameras purchased from two different places I'm wondering if this is more common.  I also wondered if it is the hand held part but since it begins to work again if the cameras are replugged in I am doubting that.

Sorry that was long and I haven't had any coffee yet.  Thank for any thoughts.

Re: Motorola MBP36 Monitor

  • We have the same problem with ours. The weird thing is, it is only the one in DD2's bedroom. Even if we switch cameras, it only happens in DD2's room. Very frustrating considering we spend a little money to have a nicer monitor. I have been bugging DH to contact them about a solution, but he hasn't followed through yet.

ETA: FWIW, we purchased the bundle through Amazon

  • I have the exact same problem with both cameras losing sound. If I turn the camera power off and on the sound is restored. I contacted Motorola and I'm currently waiting for them to send me a replacement. For the record, dealing with them has been difficult. Poor customer service. It's been about 4 weeks since I called them and I still don't have the new unit. I'm thinking about just returning the whole thing to amazon and getting something else.

  • I have had the same problem with my monitor. I contacted Motorola for a replacement after resetting was not successful, and it took an extraordinarily long time to receive the replacement. I also had to contact them several times after being told it was already shipped, before finally getting the monitor. I have had the replacement for about two months now, and it has started happening again. It is so incredibly frustrating because we can't hear our baby crying during the night without the monitor. I So, two monitors in less than eight months with the same problem, and I have no choice but to believe it is the product itself. I would love to know what other monitors people have had success with. We really like the video feature so we can if she's awake when we hear her making noise (she often makes noises in her sleep, too). I'm really fed up with Motorola and don't really want to deal with them again!
  • I have a sound-only Motorola monitor; however, the issue may apply to your monitor as well.  The monitor goes to silent mode after 10seconds of not registering sound.  Once they capture a sound, then they start working again.  It's awful.  I have to check on my baby all the time because the monitor is silent.

  • Same thing with me!! I can see the baby, but I can't hear her. I finally figure out that the problem is in the parent unit, glitch. When I turn it off for a white, and turn it back up it works for 10-30 seconds; so upset!! I sounds like its a waste to contact Motorola if the problem is going to continue. Thanks for feedback!

I have this system with one camera and never have an issue. I leave the camera turned on all the time, and turn off the monitor every morning. No complaints whatsoever with this system, it's been great.
