I started off yesterday with my first arthritic carpal tunnel pains in my left arm... and I ended the day with a strange pain in my left side.
The pain started as a sort of dull rib ache on the left, so I thought perhaps I pulled a muscle trying to favor my aching arm. Now, it has intensified. I know that such pains are typically gas (and can sort of feel it in there), so before I run to the ER, can anyone give some quick remedies for gas pain? I'm fairly certain that's all this is, but it hurts so much when I breathe in I can't sleep and am starting to worry about passing out from taking so many quick short breaths.
I took some Tums, tried a hot bath, walked a few laps around the living room, ate a few prunes, elevated my legs and then my chest, tried a few yoga poses, and am now making a cup of mint tea. Still no luck!
Thank you for your advice!!
UPDATE:
The pain continued all day Tuesday and last night. I called my family physician, who said there was nothing to worry about but suggested I check with my OB to be sure she didn't have any other concerns. When I finally got a hold of my OB today, she was concerned - she said the location and severity of the pain was not "common" at this stage in my pregnancy. She suggested I go to the Urgent Care center here to be sure it was not an infection or a problem with my kidneys... and to be sure the baby is okay, since my scheduled appointment tomorrow may be cancelled due to the weather. The doctor at Urgent Care poked me in the ribs and said I probably pulled something and sent me home, but offered me codeine for the pain. When I turned down the codeine, he said, "I thought that's what you wanted. Why bother coming in if you don't want the pain meds?" He didn't check the baby, even after I told him that's why my OB suggested I come...
I'm pretty frustrated at this point. I guess I just keep hoping the weather isn't too bad and I can still make it to my appointment tomorrow.
Re: Help! Gas pain?
Gas-x is safe to take.
For me the thing that usually helps with gas pains is laying on my left side and sometimes I'll massage my stomach in a clockwise circle. Apparently that's the way to lay to help with digestion and the movement of everything, and it usually always helps me.
All of this. Sometimes I have to sit up for awhile and then lay back down on my left to help the gas move. Tums doesn't help gas so that's not going to do much for you. Get some gas x or charcoal tablets.
My doctor told me not to take Charcoal tablets, but that Gas X was safe. Unfortunately for me the gas X doesn't do a bit of good. Try some plain seltzer water see if that will help, in the past this has helped me. Also if I walk around and try to do some bending at the waist to kind of break it up that has also helped too. Good luck, I know how painful it gan be. Also I don't think that prunes will help, that's more to get you to go to the bathroom.
