  • ) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?  We are adopting through DCF, 2-3 kids somewhere around 6 or younger.

    2) In what phase of the process are you?  Licensed!

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? Well we are now taking in a relative's two year old until the mom can get herself back on her feet.  Not exactly an "accomplishment or milestone," but it makes me realize how much I love having a house where the beds are full!!!

    4) How are you feeling this week? Exhausted trying to get M's room ready and frustrated trying to figure out what legal documents we will need.

    5) QOTW: Are you (or your church or family or community etc) doing anything special for National Adoption Month? Or for Ophan Sunday yesterday? No, which makes me feel scummy.  I should work on that.

    1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

I think adoption from foster care, but we are now also researching international adoption, Hong Kong

    2) In what phase of the process are you?

We are waiting to begin foster classes inJanuary.   We are going to send in a preliminary application to see if we qualify for the Hong Kong program next week.  We spoke with our bank about financing possibilities today.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

No accomplishments here, just confusion - we thought we knew what we were doing and then we found this program that seems like an amazing fit for our family.  We don't know if we're kidding ourselves as to affording this, we never considered international adoption due to cost.  We don't want to get our hopes up and we don't want to get in over our heads financially.

    4) How are you feeling this week?

    Unsure, see above lol

    5) QOTW: Are you (or your church or family or community etc) doing anything special for National Adoption Month?  Or for Ophan Sunday yesterday?

No, I was surprised it wasn't mentioned at church

    4) How are you feeling this week?Excited, hopeful, and like I want to get a thousand things done.  Nesting in full force!

    5) QOTW: Are you (or your church or family or community etc) doing anything special for National Adoption Month?  Or for Ophan Sunday yesterday? Our church celebrated on Sunday with a special sermon and prayer.  Sunday evening I went to an expo on human trafficking which was very informative and inspiring.

  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages? International adoption from China, ages 0-2 years

    2) In what phase of the process are you?  Very very early still. We just finished a questionnaire for the home study and still have autobiographies to do. We are also attending our first of three classes on Saturday

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? Excited to be getting the first class done!

    4) How are you feeling this week? Reaffirmed in our decision when I had to take a pregnancy test on Saturday and I was actually relieved it was negative. Not that we wouldn't welcome a pregnancy, but our hearts really feel like our baby is in China.

    5) QOTW: Are you (or your church or family or community etc) doing anything special for National Adoption Month?  Or for Ophan Sunday yesterday Our church did a service on 10/20, not sure why but it was very moving.

This is a place for anyone in the waiting-to-adopt phase to check in.  Lurkers welcome! Whether you're still checking out different agencies and programs or you're bringing your child home tomorrow, this is for you!

    1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

Domestic Infant from agency most likely

    2) In what phase of the process are you?

Research mainly, trying to get some questions answered

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

    4) How are you feeling this week?

Frustrated, I've called/emailed the agency we are interested in and have had little response. The first person I spoke with only handled international and couldn't answer my questions.

    5) QOTW: Are you (or your church or family or community etc) doing anything special for National Adoption Month?  Or for Ophan Sunday yesterday?

    Not that I'm aware of.

  • imagejillianmb:

    1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?

Fostering and possibly adopting (if it ends up in TPR) ages 0-7 up to 2 siblings. We have 3 bio kids ages 9-14.

    2) In what phase of the process are you?

5 weeks of PSMAPP classes left before we can get licensed. then the wait for placement will begin.  All ppw, etc is in.  One more Home Study visit for the caseworker to meet our kids on 11/17.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate?

Found out we can do respite before we receive our license once our BGChecks are back.  Think it would be a neat way to get a little experience before our first placement.

    4) How are you feeling this week?

I'm finally feeling not quite so manic - like I want to have an answer for everything.  Which is probably good because I'm sure there will be lots of gray area once we begin working with actual cases.

We are also thinking about not renewing our homestudy for domestic infant adoption and just sticking with the fost-adopt route.  We'll have to make that decision within the next 8 weeks or so.

    5) QOTW: Are you (or your church or family or community etc) doing anything special for National Adoption Month?  Or for Ophan Sunday yesterday?

I am sharing articles and info on FB from Adoptive Families and Dave Thomas Foundation.  We participated in a local event to raise awareness for children in foster care who are free to be adopted.

Married mom of 3 bio kids - trying to grow the family through adoption - either DIA or Fost-Adopt.
  • 1) What kind of adoption/fostering are you doing? Ages?  Domestic Infant

    2) In what phase of the process are you?  Working on our home study.  As soon as our fingerprints come in we will have the last visit and be done.

    3) Any recent accomplishments or milestones to celebrate? Not really

    4) How are you feeling this week? A little impatient.  But hopeful.

    5) QOTW: Are you (or your church or family or community etc) doing anything special for National Adoption Month?  Or for Ophan Sunday yesterday?  I don't think so.  Noone around here really knows.  We did adopt 2 new kittens this weekend though  Smile
