Super drowsy after Tummy Time?

My 3 month old DS has never been good with tummy time, but today I tried a suggestion from a 3 time mom to see if he would cry it out after 10 minutes. Before I always picked him back up after 1-3 minutes because I was told not to let him associate negative feelings with tummy time, but then I figured he was only ever crying during tummy time because of it. Since he's cried for longer than ten minutes before, albeit with me holding him, I figured I'd try this once before deciding to let him get to his tummy on his own time.

Anyway, it worked. He cried for about 6 minutes before he started looking around at the toys I placed around him. He did whine a few times, and he's not really lifting up his head the way I've seen other 3 month olds, but I'll attribute that to a late start. He was on his tummy for about 15 minutes after that before I picked him up. Since then he's looked pretty drowsy, eyes half-lidded and yawning and all that. He hasn't gone to sleep like he usually does when he looks like this. He is responsive. smiled at me a few times, but I'm not used to him looking this way without falling asleep. Do babies usually act this way after a good amount of tummy time? Should I attribute this to mommy-worry, or do you guys recommend calling a doctor?

  • I know you posted this quite a bit earlier but I will go ahead and give an opinion. I would not call the doctor. Sounds like he's sleepy; my lo fights naps all the time. I'm sure he will be fine. :)
