Melatonin?

My DS has SPD and we have realy been struggling with sleeping and napping.  My devel peds suggested Melatonin at night for a few weeks to see if this "re-set's" his sleeping.  What are your thoughts, anyone ever done this. I said I was a little reluctant because there were no real studies that show what the future effects can be.  She said that in children who have seizures, it can make them have more frequent seizures, but that was it.  I am loosing my mind.  Took almost 2 hours to get him to sleep last night, which is not the first night.

Re: Melatonin?

  • It works well for my son.  We started with 1 mg/ night about 30 minutes before bedtime.

  • I saw no difference when we used it with my DD.

  • DS takes Melatonin on as needed basis, resetting his sleep pattern.  His OT and pediatrician are on board since he has sensory seeking disorder.
