Last night, C went to town on a salad made with finely chopped brussel sprouts, fontina cheese, tiny walnut pieces, olive oil and lemon juice.
It was definitely delicious, but I never would have guessed that she would enjoy it as much as she did because brussel sprouts can taste bitter to children.
So...what dish has your LO eaten that has most surprised you?
Re: most surprising food your LO has enjoyed?
I was shocked when Aria loved sauteed bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes. We were having fajitas, and I gave her some before I added the spice. She went to town!
My family is always "surprised" by what I let her try, but other than honey and nuts, I let her try absolutely anything. I want her to enjoy a wide variety of foods, and I feel like introducing her to them this young might help with that. She even ate some of my raisin bran yesterday, and it had 2% milk on it. She didn't get a lot of the milk, but seemed to really like what she did get!
The only things I've found that she's not a big fan of are bananas and peas. She'll eat the bananas, but don't try to get peas down her. More will end up in your hair than in her mouth.

She loves poickles, she has probably eaten a half dozen mini-dills.
Yesterday I gave her some mild italian sausage, and non of that ended up on the floor. she scarfed it!
Wow..brussel sprouts! I haven't even tried those yet because I figured Asher wouldn't like them but maybe I should give them a chance.
Lucia ate and enjoyed a piece of H's pickled ginger at a sushi restaurant, that was surprising. Other than that, I'm mostly surprised by how much she likes spicy food. I'm always slow to give it to her, but she gobbles it down. Like spicy thai chicken lettuce wraps, a bite of H's taco (he adds hot sauce), and our soup had jalapeno in it last night.
It's hard to find anything she doesn't like (except whole peas which make her cry....), and it seems like the more flavorful, the better!

She also ate a small piece of eel when we ate sushi Saturday night, and seemed to enjoy it :

I can't really think of a specific food that surprises me (I don't think we've given him brussels sprouts yet or that would probably be it!). At this point we let him have just about everything we eat. I guess one thing that might be surprising is cilantro, but I eat it on everything so I would kind of expect him to like it since he's been tasting it since he was in the womb!
I'm more surprised just by how much he enjoys eating. I would have never guessed when we started solids at five months that he would be eating basically anything and everything at nine months. I definitely didn't push him, but he could self-feed pretty early and it was very obvious that he liked to eat "real" food. My mom raised four kids (at a time where people generally started solids earlier than they do now) and even she is surprised by some of the things we are already giving him. I will be very curious to see how it works with our next child!
Yes, DD loves pickles too! I thought it was really funny but she saw my friend's daughter eating one and kept reaching for them, so I gave her one which she loved. Now I give her pickle spears a couple times a week.

My oldest is very adventerous eater. He'll try anything. My 5 yr old we have to convince a bit more, but he's just a more cautious child. Somehow dh convinced him all green vegetables the hulk loves, and red for spiderman. He's all over brussell sprouts and red peppers now which he didn't used to love. We have a one bite rule. You just have to try one bite before leaving the table.
Pickels!!!
