First off sorry for the wallotxt and lack of punctuation, I am bumping from my phone. Also this is prob TLDR.
I have a 8 mo DS who I am still breast feeding and I also make his food, all organics etc... As we are approaching his first birthday, I am trying to research WCM to see if this is the way to go. Does anyone have any recs for literature, studies, documentaries etc...? Does anyone feed their child soy, almond, coconut, hemp or some other type of milk? Why did you choose this milk substitute? Anyone feed goat milk?
Just trying to start researching so that when the time comes I know I am making an informed decision. Hopefully I won't get flamed for this, tia for any responses!

Re: Question About Milk intro as well
No flames here. Both my kids nursed past a year, and so we didn't have them start WCM until they were both about 18 months. We did feed them a lot of yogurt and cheese, though.
We stick to organic whole milk ( my older son still drinks it at 4.5). If your baby doesn't have any dairy allergies, I would just stick to cow's milk. Milk alternatives can have a lot of sugar, soy isn't great in large quantities as it's an endocrine disrupter), and none of them have anything that you can't get from other foods. hth!

There's a TON of info out there and of course it's backed by different groups pushing their own agenda. I'm trying to weed through the bull shiit, pun intended, to figure out what I think is best. If nothing else it really has me thinking!
I had next to no supply so DS has been mostly formula since he was born and had no issues with cow milk. However, in researching it seems like goat milk is closer to human milk and therefore easier to digest. We plan on introducing that after his first birthday. (He's 10 months now).
I did read that goat milk is low in folate (and Vitamin B12?) so you do have to make sure to find a brand that adds those in.
Thanks! I'm going to be doing some reading on that...got side tracked by The Walking Dead

Nina Planck writes a lot about milk, and especially the importance of whole milk:

This is a better link, but you have to log in to read it...travel.nytimes.com/2006/02/12/opinion/.../12CIplanck.html
She also has a book about feeding babies and toddlers, it's a good read (though by no means a how-to guide):

I think there are much worse things that a kid can consume besides cow's milk, but there are plenty of other foods if you choose not to serve it. I drank it daily until I moved out of my parent's house, and now I barely touch the stuff as an adult!

My friend just recommended that author, thanks for the link! To further complicate things I will always have dairy around as I am a custom cake and cupcake designer/baker by trade. I do offer dairy free baked goods as well but it is much more expensive. Thanks to everyone for all the awesome responses btw!
I'm going to guess you mean 1 year old? Haha. I was reading this thinking "Whoa, my baby was nowhere near asking for milk from the fridge at 1 month!"

You are correct! My husband was raised in a little crazy corner of the world and his mother couldn't produce milk for him, so the family bought two goats; that's just how they handled it in that time/place. He is now a strapping, athletic 6'3" fellow. I like to joke that he gets his stubborn demeanour from the goats he was raised by. ;-)
I giggled over the same thing! They have goat milk at the organic markets around here too so that's definitely an option!
