My DD will be a year in Feb (2.2 to be exact). I'm trying to give size guidelines to family for gifts. Is it reasonable to think she'll fit 12mo until like April? How long do kids usually fit 12mo and 18mo clothes? She's average size and growth rate.

I don't think any of us can really give you an accurate answer, since every child is shaped different.

DS is average weight, but long.  He fits into most of his clothes exactly according to the size, except PJs.  He's always a size up in those.  He often goes up a pant size a little early because we CD.

 When it comes to gifts, it's always better they be too big than too small!

My kids, for the most part, fit clothes according to size. They wore size 12 months until they were 12 months old, 18 months until they were 18 months old, then on to the next size.  So they wore 24 months from 18 until 2 years old, then size 2T until they were 3.

I think it all depends on your child. My son is 9.5 months old, and is in 12 month clothing, sometimes 18 months depending on the brand. So for Christmas if people ask I'm telling them 18 months, or if it looks like it is cut small 24 months.

Depends on the kid. DS is long but lean so 12 month shirts fit great but his pants are kinda big in the waist but fit in length. For birthday and Christmas we requested 12 months. But then again it depends on the brand as well. Just keep all of the tags on and if need be exchange them for a larger size.

 We CD as well so the pants need to be up a size to accomodate the bigger tush :-)  DD was shorter than the pants she was in for quite some time but is hitting a tall spurt - almost 12mos but can wear up to 24mos in some brands.

It completely depends on the kid. My son is 10.5 months and wears 24 months stuff.

Just keep the tags on and return if necessary.
