One Bottle One Breast???

Okay ladies so we have been home for two weeks now, and both babies take breast milk however little bit who is now up to over 5lbs will not take the breast. She nurses for comfort but will not transfer I spent time with lactation and she said to use the nipple sheild which I do, but I stil have to pump and give her a bottle. My ohter daughter does great at the breast should I worry about getting them both on the breast or just continue to pump., they will both take bottles when I go back to work in Feb anyway any advice would be great! Take care, Tanya

Re: One Bottle One Breast???

  • I think it depends a lot on a) how much you want to BF while you can and b) how much help you have right now. On the one hand, doing two different feeding methods takes more time than being able to just tandem BF. Nursing, pumping, and bottle feeding each take up enough time on their own with two newborns, let alone trying to do all three. On the other hand, getting a baby on the breast can take a lot of time and work. If you have help around to free you up to be able to give focused attention to getting both on the breast, then that might be the way to go. The one thing I would also consider is that of course your supply has a better chance if you can get them both on the breast since a baby is always better than a pump. But of course there are plenty of people who EP long term and don't have supply issues. So basically I don't think I'm any help at all but hopefully that gives you some things to think about! :)
