Hi!  It's it crazy that it's the last month in single digits?  I said the same thing to my DH the other day & I almost started to tear up!  Seriously, it needs to slow the heck down! haha
So glad to hear that Gavin is doing well.  I'm sorry that that he just got over being sick.  Did you guys qualify for synagis this year?  We didn't & I have to admit I'm a bit nervous now for winter.  But, all is well on this end.  Henry just really started packing on the pounds. I'm guessing that he is a solid 17lbs now.  He isn't crawling yet but is on his hands & knees & rocking too.  So anyday now.  We're still doing Early Intervention and the therapist has been pleased with this development.  Is Gavin eating solids yet?  Henry loves fruits & things veggies are ok too.  But, I'm still pumping!!!, so he is also still on BM.
We haven't thought much yet about the 1st bday party.  Have you??  It's a bummer that it will be mid-winter as we live in the northeast, so anything outdoors is completely out.  Let me know if you have any cute ideas.
I'm so glad to hear that all is well on your end.  We're so lucky, aren't we??

  • Hey!  It sounds like Henry is doing really well!  17 lbs. is great!  I think Gavin might be starting a growth spurt so I'm hoping he'll catch up a little more soon!

I have started giving Gavin solids more regularly...he likes veggies and loves fruits!  He had pears and mangos for dinner tonight and gobbled down all 4 oz. in no time.  I just started giving him puffs too, which he loves, but you can tell he's still trying to figure them out texture-wise.

That is awesome (and unbelievable) that you are still pumping!  Go mama!  I stopped at 3 months...that is truly a labor of love to make it this long!

Gavin did not qualify for synagis either...he did pretty well with his first cold, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and he's had his 2 flu shots already, so I am not too worried.

I hate that he has to have his bday in the winter too!  My bday is just 2 days before Gavin's, so I know what it's like growing up with a February birthday...definitely limiting - and I live in New England.  I decided to embrace the winter though and make it his theme...'winter ONEderland'!  There is a lot of cute stuff on Etsy!  I admit I've already started looking at stuff :-)

And I agree we are really lucky to have our little guys doing so well considering their early start!

  • LOVE the winter ONEderland idea!!  I may steal it for myself :)

That's awesome too that he likes the Puffs.  I bought Henry some last week, but he's not sure what to do with them yet.  He spits them out or if he does try to eat them, the poor kid starts gagging.

Along with the 1st bday, do you have any plans to return to your NICU for your 1 year anniverary?  DH & I have thought a lot about giving back.  Our hospital has a program where "NICU Graduates" and their families come back 1 sat/month to meet with families who have babies currently in the NICU.  It was so helpful for us to see healthy kids running & playing and talking to other parents about their experience.  We're now planning on volunteering for that.  But, we'll probably also bring in sandwiches or cookies for the staff to thank them again.

Keeping my fingers Xed for healthy winter ahead of us!

  • Feel free to use the winter onederland theme too!  I know how limiting winter birthdays are!

Gavin is still not a perfect puff eater...he does fine sometimes and has gagged a few times too...I only give him a few after dinner, maybe 4 or 5.  I remind myself that he can't choke on them since they dissolve but I still hate it when he gags!

I have actually already returned to the NICU where he was born, as well as the one he was transferred to at 2 weeks...I was in the area of the first NICU in July so I stopped in and our favorite nurse was there and could not get over how good he was doing :-)  We stopped by again in early October after a doctor appointment he had at the hospital, and we saw the same nurse.  And we stopped at the NICU at the 2nd hospital in August after an appt. there.  I wish either hospital had a program similar to yours!  I would have loved to meet parents who've been through it while he was there, and I would love to be able to help others now.  I think that would be really sweet and appreciated to bring in goodies for the staff!
